I eat rice everyday together with some other dishes for my plain rice. We cook rice in several ways to meet the different kind of taste. I have one recipe here and may be you would like to try it. This is my spouse's traditional rice dish (Punjabi). Mutton Biryani -2 cups basmati rice -1/2 teaspoon saffron threads -2 tablespoons boiling water, for saffron -1/4 cup butter -2 onions, chopped -1 inch piece ginger, peeled and chopped -1 teaspoon cumin, ground -1 tablespoon coriander seed, ground -1 teaspoon cardamom seed, crushed -1 teaspoon peppercorns, coarsely ground -1 stick cinnamon -1 pound lamb, cut in 1" cubes -4 ounces dried apricot halves, cut crosswise -4 ounces raisins -2 ounces cashews, slit in half -2 ounces slivered almonds -2 bay leaves -3 teaspoons salt -2 cups chicken stock -3 tablespoons butter, melted -2 ounces pistachio nuts Rinse rice well, soak it in cold water for 30 minutes and drain. Place saffron threads into two tablespoons of boiling water and allow to soak for 10 minutes. Melt butter in a large, heavy skillet. Add onions, ginger and garlic. Sauté, stirring constantly for 5 minutes, or until onions are soft and translucent but not brown. Add cumin, coriander, cardamom, peppercorns, and cinnamon stick. Sauté, stirring constantly for about 2 minutes. Dry lamb cubes with paper towels and add to the spice mixture, taking care not to splatter. Sauté for about 10 minutes, or until they are seared and brown. Add apricots, raisins, cashews, half the almonds, bay leaves, and 1 tsp. salt. Pour into chicken stock, cover pan, and simmer until lamb is tender, about 35 to 40 minutes. Taste the mixture and add more salt if necessary. Remove pan from heat. Remove and discard cinnamon stick and bay leaves. Set aside and keep warm. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large saucepan, bring 3 pints of water to boil over high heat. Add remaining salt and rice, and boil for 1 to 2 minutes. Remove pan from heat and drain rice in a colander. Pour 1 tablespoon of melted butter into a large, ovenproof casserole dish. Put one-third of the rice in the bottom. Sprinkle with one-third of the saffron water. With a slotted spoon, transfer half of the meat and fruit mixture to the casserole dish. Add another third of the rice and saffron water. Add the remaining meat and fruit mixture, reserving the pan juices. Finish with a last layer of the rice sprinkled with the remaining saffron water. Pour the reserved pan juices over all. Sprinkle with pistachios, remaining almonds, and remaining melted butter. Cover casserole dish and bake until the rice has absorbed all the liquid--approximately one half hour. Remove from oven and serve immediately. Happy cooking!!!

rice pudding - mm my favorite.
I eat a lot of rice, I use the instant type mostly. I boil it usually too, but there are different stuff or spices that i add to it. Like add texmex spice to the water when i boil it. Or instead of water use cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup. Or chicken broth and greek spices... Sometimes i just boil it and then afterwards fry it with veggies and add a sauce like a stir fry. lol. I experiment sometimes.:) And then there is the all time favorite, RICE PUDDING!

This is typical for the Asian cousine, they eat rice very often. I like rice and here the most popular way for preparation is with chicken.

I love to eat rice too...ever try Spanish style rice? You don't boil it but "fry" it up a bit...now I'm not great about giving exact measurements since it was one of those dishes handed down..hey, besides..good cooks don't measure..hehe--but it would be more or less the following: In a large skillet, add about two to four tablespoons margarine or butter (can even use cooking oil instead), add 1-chopped up onion and 1-cup rice and in a sense stir fry until onion is translucent---add about a cup or two of water, plus about a cup of tomato sauce and blend in,..you can also add some corn and cut up tomatoes, and green peppers...cover and let simmer for awhile...keep adding a bit of water from time to time until all liquid is absorbed into the rice and the rice is cooked...You can even add some spices to it like a bit of cumin or chili powder to it...Like I said this was something handed down to me so exact measurements were never used or given... so just wing it a bit--LOL

I think you can fry or steam rice in a steamer. I just boil it as well. I would say we eat rice once a week. I do like it though espeically plain white rice, yummy! I think brown rice is pretty tasty too.

Did anyone mention fried rice patties? Another woman from My Lot told me about them, but I never got the recipe. They sounded delicious. It's supposed to be really good for left overs. I think you take day old cooked rice (or freshly cooked) and then add some steamed and diced veggies, form into patties. Fry in a little oil, turning to brown both sides. I think that's how she does hers anyway. Maybe she adds egg to bind the rice. Try it both ways. Wish I could be more help! Good luck.

i love rice and eat it maybe once or twice a week depends on what i feel like having.. you know coming down to it most things that you make with rice requires the making of the rice first (boiling it)... we have a rice maker that you just put rice and water flip the switch and let it do it itself... one of my faves is stuffed zucchini... take a fair size zucchini (depends on how many is eating) cut it in half and take the seeds out... next fry up some hamburger.. grab a can of tomoatoes (diced or crushed works best even the juice mix it in with the hamburger throw the rice in after it has cooked mix it all together put some spices in for the tasting as it is quite bland.. throw some in one side and throw some in the other side.. wrap up in tin foil and throw it in the oven... usually takes a good hour in the oven.. you want the zucchini to really sautee in the tomatoe juice and get nice and soft... when ready scoop the mixture even the zucchini (not the skin) cut up the zucchini in smaller chunks as im sure they will be a fair size throw some butter (not marj) and maybe some more seasoning salt if required...

Like you, I normally eat rice with 3 or 4 main dishes, but only for lunch and dinner. Our rice is usually boiled. I am not addicted to rice though. I can also switch to noodles or any kind of western menu like chicken chop or fish and chips.

I eat rice for my lunch. I also boil the rice as you do. Rice as a main course food is mostly taken as boiled rice in northern India. However in southern India, people first powder the rice and then make a paste with water and cook to make different kind of dishes. Those dishes are also delicious and very nutritious as well.
