How can nail polish stay longer?

Though nail polishes are not meant to stay for very long. If it would have stayed for very long period of time then I would have certainly got bored of wearing the same color for weeks. But if you want it to last bit more longer than usual 4-7 days then try wearing long-stay nail varnishes that are there in the market. The only other way is to avoid doing jobs where there are chances that nails get rubbed against some surface.
