How many cats do you have?

Just wondering how many cats you have, and do they wander? my old neighbour has about a dozen, and he lets them roam wherever they want. My problem with that is some have been coming into my yard and doing their business on my lawn. And not just normal, but diahhrea(sp). I actually think there is a new law about that here, but he's not much into authority. How do you keep your cats away from where they shouldn't be? Got any tips?

We used to have several outside cats but all of them have gotten hit by cars lately. We are currently housing my inside cat and a stray cat and her four kittens in the house so the kittens can grow up strong and healthy and so the mom doesn't travel across the road and suffer the fate of all our others. It's hard keeping cats in your yard and keeping cats out. We have stray cats coming here all the time, but there isn't much we can do about that. We don't have a fence or anything to deter any strays.

Is there anything they don't like the smell of that maybe I could spray around to deter them? I often wonder how well the neighbour looks after them, as his house is an absolute pigstye, and the yard is like the rubbish dump.

I have three cats. They live indoors since they don't have claws anymore. Indoor pets tend to live longer than those that are kept outside.

I think cats seem cleaner and nicer if they are kept inside. And they probably do live longer for various reasons.

I had a cat when my son was born, but he wasn't inside. I don't like the idea of any animal around babies.

Cats can be good with dogs.Dogs can be good with cats.It is people who teach them to hate each other.I have 4 in door cats and 2 in door dogs and they love each other. My hound dog will protect the cats if she thinks you are hurting them. She washes them and babies them.If you teach them to get along they will.

Yes, I agree. My wife and I had 2 cats and a dog, and it was the two cats that didn't get on so well together. Mind you, one was a kitten, but the dog always looked out for her!

It would be nice if they played in their own yard. I'm ok with most cats, but for some reason, my mother's burmese always makes my eyes itch and water. I usually steer clear of her. The cat, not my mother, lol!

I have 5 cats, and they're all outdoor cats. They wander wherever they please, as do the cats that belong to other people in the neighbourhood. It is unusual to have indoor cats here in the UK - most people let their cats have freedom, and there is certainly no law stopping them wandering here - it would be impossible to legislate it anyway as cats do whatever they want - LOL! In my opinion, cats are animals that need to be outside to run and play and follow their natural instincts - you can't keep them locked up like caged animals and never let them see the light of day or feel fresh air.

Yes, you can't restrict a cat, especially if they are outside. You certainly can't keep them fenced in like a dog, they are such climbers and jumpers. By the way, the cat on your avatar looks a lot like the cat I used to have. He was a big tom, with a mean streak, but quite funny!

In total as of this post, I got about 6 felines, as in 2 cats, and 4 kittens: Topper, the older cat in my house Butterball Jr, the female cat I told you about earlier ...and 4 extra kittens Butterball Jr. had I also had a pic of them, but I can't seem to upload them since posts don't seem to have any feature in uploading pics.

Yes, there is actually a large field area over the road, so I don't know why the cats can't use that as their toilet!

hmm the best cat deterent is a big yet mellow dog with a booming voice like a blood hound :) But make sure he is just scaring away the kitties. well yeah kitty poop is indeed awful sometimes and the scent is something appauling...But your neighbor needs to be informed about the discomfort you are having with her cats, my cats are all house trained used to be 5 of them but i gave away the two youngens to my nephew and niece....I mean having too many cats and not owning up to the responsibility is wrong your not a true cat lover if you do that. loving animals include responsibility for them. In Miami having too many cats or dogs is illegal and you will expect a visit from the police. Just have tea with the person and open up your qualms that's all :)

Hmmm, wonder if one of those fake dogs that 'barks' with movement would work, otherwise I'd need to clean up more poop, lol! I can tell my neighbour about it, but he's quite eccentric and will probably tell me it's not his cats doing it. Truthfully, I believed cats were cleaner than his and actually dig holes for their business!

I have 4 indoor cats and 2 outdoor cats. There is some stuff you can get to keep cats away from areas you do not want them in. You will have to go to a pet store and ask.I raised mine with a spray bottle of water. All they have to do is see it and they will run.I have 2 calliecos,a gray and a white one.I also have 2 dogs,a small one and a hound mixed.Have you talked to your neighbor?I know people love their pets because I do, but they should be responsible for them. They sound like it is possible they could be sick.I would talk to my neighbor if I got no response there I would call the Humane Society.

I will mention it to my neighbour, but knowing what he is like, I won't really expect much of a response in the positive. I have wondered about the health of the cats, and also worry about my 4yr old son if he plays in an area that has been soiled by them. I'll check out the spray, though!

At this time, my wife and I have three cats and one is visiting. When we are not at home, they usually are asleep under beds or on their cat condos. Two of the cats in our family are males and the other is a female. The two male cats are named after army generals because they were born five years ago on Memorial Day. The first is Patton. He is a tuxedo cat (black and white) and man is he big. Then there is McArthur. He is also five years old and loves to play. He can practically open doors himself and he can jump quite high. He walks like a cowboy and I really wanted to call him Wayne. The female is Mimi. Before we knew that she was a female, I decided to call her Churchill. I was very fond of Winston Churchill of England and since I figured that she would have been royalty if she was a male or female, it really did not matter. My wife thought that she needed a female name, so in honor of my first dog, we named her Mimi. Love the cats!

I had a ginger cat that was quite big also, and I named him after a old Aussie cricketer, in a roundabout way, as Max. I like cats, as I generally find they are a clean animal, but not my neighbours, they don't even cover their business!

I have just one, although my roomate has 2. Her cats go outside but never venture far from the porches, Mine doesnt go out at all. I have no idea on how you would do that, unless you took them out on a harness.

Our family has three cats, two declawed and the other too old to bother. The oldest used to roam around everywhere, be gone for days, etc. Since we moved back into a 'city environment' the oldest cat stays indoors all the time, the middle cat (Tosh--he is mine) likes the backyard but close enough to the door just in case. Finally the baby cat, smallest of the three is a total lady ! She never goes outside, too dirty and she never roams, too lonely . . .

You often wonder what they get up to when they disappear for several days!! Sounds like city life has tamed them quite well. That is actually the sort of cat that is nice to have, a prim little lady. My mum actually has a burmese that fits that description quite well!
