I want to know where on earth someone came up with the name for "Hotdogs?"
They aren't hot unless you cook them and in no way do they resemble a dog...no, not even a weiner dog.Who thought this up?

Well I do know two things from the Food Net work LOL. If I can remember correct, they came from Germany, and thus the name frankfurters, after the town there. My Husbands Grandmother, who came from there as a child, still calls them that. Secondly, like the other posted said, they started to call them "Hot Dogs" after a vender figured out it was easier for customers to eat the franks with all their beloved toppings on them, if it was a bun. Since the buns look a lot like a Doxin and were sold warm, they were dubbed "Hot Dogs".

I am not positive but I think they were called red hots 1st. Then the bun was added. Sometime around the time the bun came out they started calling them hot dogs because they resemble the Daschund.
