time out

After watching the super nanny, many many times, I started to use the time out method, or the naughty step or corner. It has been around for awhile as i remember them having time out when i was in primary school. After trying this for several months i realised it was just not working with my daughter, she would just scream and scream and would not settle down unless i talk to her and comfort her. Obviously the timeout was backfiring. I tried to leave her to cry it out, but it just does nt ork , she just does not stop. I was wanting to hear if anybody else has used this and having it not worked, and would also love to hear from the people it does work on. thanks
