Gay people recruiting?

Just ran across this concept in another discussion this morning. Apparently, many people are still afraid of the gay/lesbian propaganda machine and its effect on the young. I have considerable knowledge on this subject and wanted to share an important piece of information about it: IT'S TOTAL BULLS HIT! Period. Please understand this basic fact of human sexuality: if you are straight, nothing can "persuade" you to turn gay. If you are gay, nothing can "persuade" you to turn straight. Some gay people force themselves to live straight lives for reasons of family or faith, but there is always an underlying cost. Human sexuality is a broad spectrum. Most people fall onto one side or the other, but some are in the middle. Loving relationships between two adults are OK, the genders don't matter. I have been an out lesbian for 25 years. In that time, I have been physically assaulted, insulted, stalked, denied rental opportunities, been fired, had perfect strangers accost me on the street and harangue me about eternal damnation. I have been regarded with suspicion, distrust, and outright hate for no bigger reason than looking like what I am. This is an EXTREMELY common list of experiences for gay people in the USA. What kind of a scum-sucking, subhuman, wasted sac of protoplasm A**HOLE would I be if I tried to convince someone else that this was the life for them? PLEASE - I have tried to talk people OUT OF gay life, not into it! Responding to this discussion with religious texts aimed at enlightening me to my soul's peril will not only be off topic, but will beautifully illustrate one of my favorite sayings: Never seek to teach a pig to sing. You waste your time and annoy the pig. Peace!

What a truly confusing discussion. At first you say "If you are gay, nothing can "persuade" you to turn straight. Some gay people force themselves to live straight lives for reasons of family or faith, but there is always an underlying cost." then you turn around and say "PLEASE - I have tried to talk people OUT OF gay life, not into it!" Am I missing something here or have you just contradicted yourself???

No doubt! You have a good skill for identifying things that don't match up, I guess that would be critical for any good investigator. It would also make you a good editor, if you ever are looking for a new career, you should definitely think about that one! Thanks for stopping by!

I think people who think homosexuality is a choice, either haven't thought about it very hard (i.e. did they really choose heterosexuality?), or are homosexual themselves, but have grown up in a very non-gay-friendly environment, and figure that by screaming anti-gay rhetoric, they can dissuade others from noticing. I'm sorry about all the crap you've had to deal with.

You are absolutely right! No one can convince or persuade anyone to be or not to be gay. That isn't something anyone can tell himself or herself, "hey, I wanna be gay".. and VOILA! they changed? hahaha! I am sorry about the things you've been through, but you know, I think it isn't right for people to judge you on your sexuality! What is the heck is their business with your sexuality anyway? In my whole life, it has never mattered to me that a person was gay or not. As far as I'm concerned, I know for sure I'm not a perfect human being either. Even God who created humanity never judged anybody. It doesn't matter to Him whether the person praying to Him is gay or not, right! After all, He created EVERYONE...STRAIGHT OR GAY. Therefore, as human beings, who are we to judge anybody? And who are we to tell anybody what sexuality he or she should have?

Do these people think gay people are going into high schools telling teenagers "Hey come join our club!". I mean come on now. I think teenagers may see things either in public or on tv or even have thoughts and decide to experiment. They may experiment and decided that's just not for them. I had many friends do this when I was in high school for whatever reason. But I don't think I person can be persuaded one way or the other to be gay. You either are or you aren't. Fortunately when I was in high school kids weren't teased too terribly bad for "coming out". Everyone and then there would be the a**hole kid who would try name calling but for the most part they were pretty well accepted.

Everyone has the right to choose the way of life they like so long as it doesn't hurt anyone. I don't have any objection to them for the life they choose. The most important thing in life is, I think, to be happy.

Hi gardengrrl, it is just so pathetic that you've had to put up with so much crap in your lifetime. It's so incredibly unnecessary and hateful. The people who say it's a choice have no sense of logic whatsoever and need to remove their heads from their sphincters. Of course it's been the same pretty much throughout history, anyone who doesn't fit the "norm" is usually an outcast in society. When people realize that celebrating our unique-ness (whatever that may be) is a plus for all of society it will be a calmer and better world. Unfortunately it's far in the future and we'll never live to see it. For the people who tend to throw religion into the equation never stop to think that maybe the existance of gays may be the Gods/Natures form of population control? I don't mean that in a negative way at all, by no means. I think it's a perfectly logical way of a human being to contribute a great deal to society with adding to it's population. Personally I think the universe has a very ordered and intelligent logic to it and being gay is quite the opposite of being a "mistake of nature". It should be accepted as a very intregal part of life and embraced as any other. How's that for radical religious concepts? I'm sure I'll get flamed pretty good for that way of thinking but my idea of religion has always been very contradictory of the norm.

Absolutely right.....this country is based more on bigotry and senseless violence more than anything else. Im straight as one can get, but how long have we hung out? I never got "gay" cooties or anything like that. People just need to mind their own dam*n business.
