Where do you go camping?

Do you go primitive or do you like all the amenities? Do you maybe rent a cottage, or take a tent? What about a RV?
I go to a local creek where we can camp primitive for free. I like primitive camping, mostly because I prefer to not be in crowds and enjoy the quietness. I sleep in my tent and make my bathroom behind a tree!
How about you? Where and how do you camp

I must ask you what does sleeping in a tent next to a creek and going to the bathroom behind a tree have to do with camping? Around here it is called homsteading.

I live on 50 acres in the middle of no where arkansas and have a private 4 acre lake. In the evenings I sit on my elevated small porch and watch the deer and the geese feeding down by the lake. Its not a bad way to finish out ones life.

Our pay camp sites that are near enough that we can go there for showers, clean water and a potty, Are $12 a night for 4 I think. Extra people pay $.50 a day more. I can not see paying $48 dollars for my daughter and myself to stay there for 4 days! Crowds, lots of noise! Where we stayed was 2 sites and the young drunks were a real pain in the !

My son has just purchased a tent and has told me that he will be camping out for the next month or two in order to save some money. This freaked me out a little bit. But, I guess if you love to camp, why not do it.

I like primitive to a point. I can no longer sleep on the ground as the cold gets into my bones, even in summer. I dislike crowds and opt for seclusion and off the beaten track sites where I won't be disturbed, unless it's a goanna coming in to see what we are eating, or a kookaburra that pinches our food right off the frypan as it's cooking and while we are sitting close by tending it! It's been a long time but my then partner and I discovered an off road camper was ideal for us and I have to have my porta potty. They have a giant sized bed and room to sit and set up the table inside to play cards or games if the weather is inclement. My only regret is most of the places where one can camp are national Parks and no pets are allowed. I'd love to take my animals.

I go to a national forest site and we are allowed to have dogs on a leash. I take them on tie out cables and hook the around stumps, posts, table leg, what ever. But NEVER on a tree I learned that it hurts the tree to do this so I don't use the trees.
I like everything except sleeping on the ground, and cutting the wood. It would not be so bad if I had and could use a chainsaw, but I only have a saw. We can also only burn downed wood. and I decided against the air mattress for some BLOND reason!
And I must ask; What are kookaburra & goanna? I have not heard of them. I will go see where you live on your profile. I know it is not anywhere near me! LOL

As you can see, I'm Australian. A kookaburra, sometimes called "laughing kookaburra" is a member of the kingfisher family. See here:

A goanna is a large monitor lizard. See here:

Happy camping!

I love to go camping, near water and secluded but I do like to have modern bathroom facilities nearby - like roughing it but not completely. We've had a tent for 10 or more years.

We go to a lake, if we are local. We will do primitive day camps. Hubby has yet to camp out with me at night. We have taken a tent on occasion to use as a headquarters, changing area, rest spot.I used to go camping with my close friend a lot, when our kids were young. Cook at a fire ring, using deadfall wood.sleep in tents or in open air, on lawn chairs. Sometimes in the back of the station wagon or van. When we travel, we usually rent a KOA cabin, and that is more like a little self contained room. You do not cook there, and you go over to a shared bath house. It is actually a very economical way to travel, with cabins being about half the price of motel rooms, or less. I still like a real toilet. LOL They also have tent camping sites and RV hookups.

Well you have given me a good idea.We are having a big trip in Sept. with the girls. We are going to Canada for an event with girl Guides! We will have to stay over night and I have been looking at hotels, but... $$!!
I have decided to check on KOA.I will PM you with the area we will be in and see if you know a good one near there. I may be close to you but I am not sure where your town is!!LOL

I normally only camp when on fishing trips with friends. We pay a small fee to set up our tent on a caravan park (a trailer park for vacationers). We could probably get a little more 'primitive' but it's good to be able to use running water for cooking etc. and a toilet for #2's!
This year my friend borrowed a tow-along trailer and it was much more comfortable than the tent, but I kind of missed 'roughing it' like we used to. After a few days I used to dream about getting into my nice warm comfy bed and cuddling up to my wife!

My bed would be about the only thing I REALLY missed. We went and got some of those blow up pool floats and used them as our beds. It was a big help!
There is a pay campground about a mile away and we go there to use the showers, potty, get extra clean water. If they sold ice there we would not even have to go to town!

When my family goes camping we take the tent. We usually go to a campground, but prefer the rustic area where there are as few people as possible. We don't need all of the extras, but a bathroom and a fire pit are nice.
A primitive camp is nice too, basically anywhere along the river or lake where we can jump in and wash up, and where we can find a private spot to use the bathroom.

We go on most of our trips with our camper, which has pretty much all the luxuries of home. I enjoy primitive camping as well; but at the moment I am 5 months pregnant & our littlest one is 5 years old. For those reasons the camper is the current preference. I am planning a "just the girls" trip this summer with my teenage daughter- that will be roughing it & tent camping.

I love camping i enjoy it. Tent is always the one that use for camping because its interesting and fun. I like to camp in the mountains that has lots of beautiful trees and maybe flowers.
