Help! Hamster shedding fur

Recently my hamster has been shedding fur in patches and i can see the red raw skin. It looks really painful. Anyone has any experience on this? I've had my hamster for nearly 3 1/2 years now...is this a sign that it's almost time for him to go? =(

Yes.it really means it is about to go.But if the fur grows back,it does not mean that it is going to go.My hamster is like this,Shedding and growing,sheedding and growing.It is so weird!My hamster is a girl and her name is Jojo!She gave birth to my hamster Cute-cute.They both are Dwarf hamsters.I am so lucky that Jojo do not bite me.She only nibble.
