Big Sam's first worrying commednt

Allardyce starts his recent words with something along the lines of...'I have now been able to adjust my sights in the transfer market from my days at Bolton'.
This is good, I don't want my team to be going after the same players as Bolton, no offence but I think potentially NUFC can do a lot better......all good so far.
He then states that 'we had a vast scouting network at Bolton, searching for the players we could afford'.....ok....he continues 'now at Newcastle this is not needed as the targets we are going for already have the reputations and their playing record - we do not have to scout them.'
This second part worries me a little. I would much prefer especially for the first year incharge Allerdyce to use this type of network to find some bargin players and not have to spend millions just because of their 'current record' this record surely puts the price up. I would love it for Allardyce to find some of the gems he uncovered at Bolton.
Please don't get me wrong, I am all for players of quality signing but I just hope they are not the players of the past after a quick buck and a stepping stone for their premature departure.
Am I reading too much into this???

I think Allardyce's comments are more in the lines of that he can now afford to thing big. At Bolton he had to manage with smaller players and players who were more or less "has beens". At Newcastle now he would have enough money to go for the bigger players. Given his astute leadership, I think Newcastle can start dreaming of success again. I have always felt that after Sir Bobby, Newcastle did not have good managers to say the least.
Cheers!

Agreed.
I think Sam can afford to think bigger, and I agree that we in the Toon Army can realistically start dreaming of success again.
However, as fans we have a role to play too. We have to be patient. I'm sick of the roller-coaster of emotions when new managers come in through the revolving door every 12 to 18 months. Under Shepard this has happened partly to please fans' expectations.
Big Sam needs the time to work on a 5-to-7 year long improvement programme that can really get Newcastle all the way to the top.

Well i think sam allardyce did his accounts real well especially at bolton .... but as you can see that buying barton and selling parker and eventually newcastle still earn 1.2 million through the transcation yea .... Have fatih in him yea

Welcome bosamuelson.
Insightful Topic:
I too have shared your concern over the last few years that Newcastle tend to buy players, "after a quick buck and a stepping stone for a premature departure."
Weak managers like Roeder, and total numpties like Souness have allowed Freddy Shepard to make the running on this. But I think Sam is big enough to push back at the Chairman and get his own recruitement policies happening.
[BTW - I hope Mike Ashley dumps Freddy out the door. Chairman should never be allowed to override managers like he has done. I reckon it was precisely why Sir Bobby gave up in disgust and left.]

Cheers for all replies and I in generally agree with them all. I think it is a little more difficult than we thought to attract players. It seems for instance in the Rohzenal is proving a little more difficult than we first thought. And I am gutted we missed out on Hiam.
As for Freddy I cant wait for Ashley to say F*** O** appols for the language but he has been a parasite on our club for years and years and override managers is exactly what he has done in the past. Allardyce get kicked about I doubt it. I dont think he would allow it and Freddy would not have been able to get rid of him, us fans know what is potentially possible with Allardyce.
Ok not sure that made sence but Im off back laters
Cheers again

Newcastle generally have a very strong team. I thik you're right about the chairman. Shepard, to me, seems to be a hiderance to your sides chances. He's always coming out with negative comments. I think you've got a quality team though, so once Sherpard gets his pennies he'll be out of there and you'll have a true fan on board, best of luck.
