Healthline reports that a New York teen cross-country runner is reported to have died after using large quantities or a muscle soreness rub. Acording to various new stories, the medical examiner concluded she died after using rubs and creams to dilate blood vessels to bring blood to the area and redden the skin. Deaths are rare but salicylate poisoning is not rare or unknown. Poisonings using medicated oils account for "48% of acute salicylate poisoning cases treated in the general medical ward of the Prince of Wales Hospital" in Hong Kong.
This is so scary. I am wondering how much she used.

This is the first I've heard of such a thing. It is scary. I once used something like that on my neck that made my skin turn red and burn. I had to wash it off with soap and water, and it was irritated for a long time. I'm cautious using anything now, and I'll just put on a small amount until I see how it will affect me. Perhaps that young girl was using that cream regularly, and the poison built up in her system.

That is a possibility, too. I would be interested in knowing what country it came from.

I did a posting on this same thing some time last week.
I'm sorry but I find it a bit odd that she passed away this way.
Only because many people use this same creme everyday and they are fine.
I feel for this families lose but I find it odd.

Hi Rayne, my mom just gave the article, and I was shocked by it. In the summer time I have used creams that have some kind of mint that make the feet feel very nice. I am wondering what kind she used and how much she used.
