My survey says a few particular types of people join mylot. Most of us join to earn some extra money. But the characteristics of people are somewhat similar. Most people talk of love, and relationships. That's the most common topic i find. The next most common topic is making money. People are really concerned about making money online. Other than these there are are lots of social issues and several other topics which i find not so interesting. Most unfortunately, very few people are interested in talking scientifically. Issues concerning science and technology are totally neglected at mylot? Is there any specific reason for that? Or mylottians don't find science that interesting?

hi jade.even i had this doubt.when i see profiles of mylotters i observe most of them have choosen particular topics like love, people, relationships, people and most of the people are interested to respond to them because they are genreal and easy to answer and almost all the people can answer. If you start a discussion in this topics you will get more responses which results us more earnings .if we start a topic about science and technlogy most people i think dont know about this because they are not professional in that.when i start a discussion in indian cricket team or about taj mahal i got fewer respones.you know some times only one and that too after 20 min.So i started discussiong about most common subjects and getting good responses.now i see so many people started mylotting just for earning money and posting lot of referral links .so i think the people here are working for thier interests and to earn money

I quite agree with you. Love, money, relationships, these are very easy topics to post for. But there should be some level of intellectual discussions in any forum. Love, money, etc. etc..they let us share our cultures with people but we need to share our knowledge too. If that costs a bit for our earnings let it be..Anyways, lets not start a revolution and play according to the norms.

I don't know. I guess it is if most people talk about love, money, relationships, and social issues, it kind of silences those who are interested in technology and science. Talking about social issues and family is safe. If I'd talk about why is it that if the Earth is supposed to be over a million years old, why have we not settled the other planets or in the vastness of space, what system should a space vehicle have to maintain life for its passenger s's, I'd get funny remarks if I mentioned that I am happily married and a grandmother. They expect a single career woman to talk about science and technology or a woman who is married to an academic and just have each other and their work. Besides the men and women who would be interested are probably working, and scientists are usually busy in the labs. They do not have time to go to myLot. I would suggest you enter science and then technology as interests and see if that helps. It might be the reason no one talks about what you are interested in is because no one has started those interests.

thanx granny, i will try and see if that helps. I meant to say that it should not be anything that common people wouldn't understand. There can be lots more in science which deal with all of us...anyways, i'll try, and thanx again.

I think basically people join myLot to earn some money first and eventually make a few friends for discussions. People prefer to choose topics that are easy to response to. Not many people are familiar with science and technology, I think that's the reason it is being neglected....

I'm not sure that it's a lack of interest so much as that those with it as a strong interest are usually also working in that field and when we're out of work, let's face it - there are other things to talk about. You won't find discussions on the nursing profession, teaching, human resources, or a plentitude of other careers people are interested in and participate in either. This is a forum outside of work.

Hi, MJlami, My point was not to talk of work...We can talk of any issue other than work. Science as a whole does not get involved in any body's work. Science can be a part of general knowledge, general awareness, new technological developments...Once i saw, somebody posted a topic about wireless electricity. That was very interesting and would interest all of us regardless of our profession. best wishes...

I think 99% of the peolple join myLot to earn money. Even I am amongst that 99%. Science is an interesting thing but not to discuss in myLot. Mylot is a place to hangout and this not for scientific discussion..

A powerful observation and I totally agree. I tried several "scientific" topics here, but no one really bothers. Even if I post about critical issues like GMO's and AIDS etc. I have even thought that we should start a club on MyLot specific for science related topics to boost the participation. But I don’t know how that can be done! It’s disappointing, because there are so many popular science topics that could lead to feverish discussion and people earning more...

Science is an interesting topic. What makes science not that interesting here in mylot and even in the real world is that people does not want to talk about it. Only a few people really understand how a specific thing works. These few people also don't want to share there ideas. Why? Because they are afraid someone might steal it.

I think the answer is pretty clear for yourself and you can know that by differentiating these two questions: 1. Do you think a Scientist make money? 2. Do you think a Scientist make by money? Could be a stupid question but pretty clear.

Umm I just stopped here, originally, to see how similar it was to the other meet 'n' greet sites out there. Of which there are MANY. I'm not looking to make money on here, that would mean I'd have to care a LOT more than I currently do but as far as what I'll respond too? Just depends. I may run across something thats just truly fascinating to me and I'll post a reply, or I'll just read whats on here with no compulsion to reply at all. I'm the type that if I have nothing to say I don't say anything. I truly don't see the point of replying in order to earn a few bucks. It's like the others have said, we're all different and have different interests or hobbies. Just talk about what you enjoy and as time goes others WILL find you.
