Do You Dine At All-You-Can-Eat Resturants?

I have always loved all-you-can-eat resturants. When I was younger, my boyfriend would take me to a resturant called HomeTown Buffet. I loved it, because you couldn't go wrong. If you didn't like something, you could throw it away and get something else.
The only problem with me back then is that he would complain that I did not eat enough for him to get his monies worth. As I got older I did better. My older sister and I have a birthday three days apart, so most of the time we celebrate together.
Last year, my two sisters, my auntie and I went to The Soup Plantation in Marina Del Rey. Everything was wonderful and my auntie did not complain one time. However, when I mentioned HomeTown Buffet, years before, she had plenty to say and none of it was nice. Oh, she didn't mind the taste of the food. Her problem was people who mess over the food while they are choosing.
She went on and on about the kids hands not being clean, especially if they were playing outside before they came in. I sat there and listened to all of this silliness and thought, I guess that is a good reason, if any, to say grace before eating. How do you feel about these resturants?

I have not done a buffet like that in a long time...they are ok...nothing to write home about..usually the food is fried..which is not that healthy for you. When my son was little I would take him to a home town buffet. I would eat, he would eat, I would go grocery shopping, he would stay and eat. I would come back to pick him up usually just as he got done.
He was a bigger eater, I personally did not get my money's worth, he ate enough for 1st army. He has been asked not to return to higher quality buffets
BTW Your aunt is write....if people are not careful, You can get all kinds of sick from these buffets, I watch and get my food from when I tray is first brought out.

I don't go to all you can eat places that often, but we do go here and there. I do like them cause I can try new things and get filled up with yummy different things instead of just whatever you order at regular resturant.

I don't go there all the time either. In fact, going there for me is a treat. I feel really pampered because I have a meal that I did not have to cook, taste great, not too expensive and I got to have a little bit of everything I like. The best part is the salad bar. If they have all the right toppings and they are fresh, yum, yum.

I have no probelem with them myself. If I don't like the way the buffett looks or if I feel like it's not worth the price of what I am paying then I don't go back. Golden Coral is pretty good all though I haven't ate there in a while. There dessert bar is great also.

Yes it is a food chain. My grandmother was the same way if she didn't like something aabout where we where eating she would let you and sometimes the people working know about it. I remember years ago when I use to live with her because it was easier to go to work at this Jacket factory we both worked at in plus she lived closer it. One night we went to eat at Kentucy Fried Chicken. It was close to $10.00 dollars for 2 meals and it upset her and she went to the cashier and told her about it to. I was so embarrased but that is how grannie was she spoke her mind she didn't care who you were or what she said how she felt.

I love smorgasbords or all you can eat restaurants. I tend to pace myself and have a little bit of everything just so I think that I am eating my monies worth. Its fun if you get together with family and friends and each just pay the one price and eat as much as you want.

I love those type of resturants. I hate it too when people play over the food. A few miles from my house theres a buffet located in the casino, its an all you can eat resturant, they serve all types of food: seafood, chinese, italian, american, soul food, and mexician, all year round. I love going their and all of the dishes are delicious.

Are you saying $18.99 per person? If you are, that food must be really good. Although, I must admit, I don't know what the prices really are because everytime I go, someone is treating me. My sister use to take me to the Soup Plantation every year on my birthday.

Lol, no its not Las Vegas. I'm from Louisiana. It use to be kind of small, but since they have been having a lot of customers they made it bigger. Everytime we go there to eat there is a long line, but no one mind waiting because the food is so delicious. They just raised the price to $18.99.

I love buffets, but I can't indulge in this form of eating too often, so I limit myself to only 5 or 6 times a year that I enjoy buffets at restaurants. I tend to indulge whenever I see the big spread of food available. Someone once told me this phrase: "those who indulge, bulge". How true this can be. I take this seriously, so I am more careful about eating buffets for the sake of my health.

I like that saying, indulge and bulge, that is cute. I also like the one that says, "A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips." I do like to go to all you can eat resturants, but I go once a year.
On my birthday is enough for me. When I enjoy certain things a lot, I try not to over-do it, because then it becomes routine. This for me, easily becomes boring. If I get stuck in a rut, I start to feel restless and have to break out of the normal everyday stuff and do something different.

Thirty dollars for each adult? Oh, it has been a long time since I have been to one of these places. I know that all-you-can-eat, is good, but my oh my. My phone bill is only $30.00. But, I guess it is good to treat yourself sometime. I better go see how much the Soup Platation is. Maybe, my sister loves me a lot more than I thought.

Yes, if i have money, I'd love to go there, but poor me, I can't. I just dine at cheap restaurants, where I could afford to buy foods for myself. :)

Oh, we all have to budget our money, but it is nice to treat yourself every once in a while. Have someone take you out for dinner for your birthday. These places are a lot of fun to eat at. Just make sure you are really hungry or you wont get your monies worth.

I enjoy the all you can eat restaurants as well. For me, I enjoy the chance to try a little bit of everything. Usually when I go to restaurants, I am scared to try something new and waste the money I am spending on a meal that I won't end up eating, so I usually get the same darn things every time. The all you can eat restaurants allow me to try new items that I may order as an entree at some point.

I completely understand how you feel. I hate to waste money on food that I do not like. People accuse me of being a picky eater, but I am not. I can not eat nasty food.
They tell me that I was spoiled as a child, maybe I was. My mother did not make us eat food that we did not like. She would tell us about people in other countries that would love to be eating what we were. So, I did appreciate her cooking, but she respected my right to choose and I will be forever grateful for that.

I love buffet restaurants! It's quite a popular thing here in Singapore too.
The good thing about dining at such places is that you can try a little bit of everything & the variety is simply fantastic!
I don't agree that you have to stuff yourself silly when you go to such places. The most important thing is that you enjoy yourself, instead of over-eating till you feel sick. :)

I do not mind the table manners...I just love to go to these restourants whenever I get the chance to do so...because there is a lot of food to choose from and best of all I could get to eat them all and most of the time it includes dozens of fruits, cakes etc...it is a lot more exciting to eat different kind of food at one time since it could have so expensive if you bought the food on a per order basis. Hmmm...actually I am planning to go right now...but I forgot...I have to pay the rent for the apartment this monday and I'm trying to save some bucks...so I have to postpone it indefinitely.

Yea, I feel exactly the same way as you do. I too have always loved buffets. No matter what the venue, I still love them.
Usually there is an amazing variety of different types of food so we canorder anything we like to eat. This means that no one will complain about not liking this item or that item that was ordered by someone else. Each person just helps himself/herself to the food that he/she likes to eat. Moreover, they can all eat as much as they want.
Usually since the buffet lasts at least 2 hours, we'd spend our entire time at the buffet, eating and chatting at the same time. It's great! :)

Generally I do not go to such restaurants because I seem never to eat my monies worth, and with my son, It is better to just go to the spur where he can spend most of his time playing and making a noise (just like kids like to do) and I can enjoy my meal in peace. LOL
