My mother would dress up my sister and I in these Kimono outfits that she had. My mom is from Okinawa so she had the authentic outfits which had multiple layers and the belts and the fake buns to put in our hair with the hair decorations and everything. It would take forever to get dressed up, but we had soooo many compliments on them.
I remember one year that I dressed up as Tinkerbell as well. What were some of your most memorable costumes?

When I was very young, probably only a year and a half old, I was a gypsy. One of the old pictures that my mom has is of me in that costume, and I must say that I make a cute little blonde haired gypsy. :)
One of the ones I remember best was when my best friend and I dressed up as the California Raisins when we were in 8th grade, I think. We wore black tights and turtlenecks, and then a big black trashbag stuffed with newspaper. My mom even made us little "bibs" that looked like a tuxedo shirt and purple bow tie.
My mom was really big on making our Halloween costumes. I hated it at the time, because I always wanted a store bought costume, but now I realize how much of a waste those things are. You're lucky if the store-bought ones make it through Halloween, let alone are usable the next year!

I was a mommy one year, a dalmation another year, bat girl one year, a witch, some kind of weird monster thing, a punk rocker, one of the blues brothers, I did the 1950's poodle skirt thing one year, another year I did the authentic 1940's dress, pin curls, etc.

I remember being Casper, Mr. Spock, a clown, Ziggy Stardust (at least my mom's perception of who/what that is, lol), Rebecca of Sunny Brook Farm, and a hippie.
I know there was more, but those are the Halloween costumes that I can recall. ...if I remember any more, I'll come back, lol.

I didnt really ever go as something outlandish. I can remember dressing as a gypsy, a magician, cleopatra, a cat, a fairy, a witch and a mummy (BTW, toilet paper does NOT hold up to a whole night of trick-or-treating!). Pretty run of the mill stuff. My mom wouldn't usually spring for the store bought costumes, so we would use things we had at home and make the accessories ourselves.
