Residual Energy...

So as of late i've been watching Most Haunted and Ghost Hunters.... And i've heard them talking about residual energy. The way I see it is Residual energy is like an energy recording of something thats happened in the past that can repeat itself and either show itself like a ghost or it can be heard. For example 50 years ago there may have been an old man who lived in your house that used to climb the stairs to go to bed at a certain time every night...you may hear the footsteps of that man or see his spirit climbing the stairs but he is unaware if u being there. Its like a recorded image or sound of the past that keeps on replaying itself. So i was thinking i wonder how many noises around our houses that we are familiar with are not what we think? What if the sqeaking of the side gate isn't the wind pushing it back and forth like u thought it was but really a residual sound of a husband opening the gate on his way in from work so many years ago....or what if the creaking of the floorboards you hear near your doorway of a nighttime when your in bed isn't just the old house expanding or settling but is in fact that old man's residual energy sounds coming up the stairs and walking past your room to go to bed? I think it's definately something to think about...How many sounds in your house are you so familiar with that you dont take any notice of? Maybe it would be worth while to listen a bit closer to your creaky floorboards..or dont be so quick to dimiss the distant sound of a mans voice, or the closing of a door.
