If you wake up during the night and cant get back to sleep, do you lay there quitely or get up and do something? Do you wake your other half up so then you both can't sleep? If I wake up I try to be quite but my hubby who isn't a very good sleeper has a habit of if he cant sleep he wakes me up, either by 'accidently' touching me with his cold feet, or by gently touching me in certain areas. Depending on the time or if I am not tired I dont mind this and sometimes respond accordingly, but if I am tired it is a bit annoying, he is so cheeky though and I cant say not to do it cos as much as annoys me I would be sad if he stopped doing it!! I just wish he could sleep better so then I could too!!! What do you do if you wake up during the night and cant sleep?

That happens to me every night. Thats when I do all my housework. Its great with no disturbances everyone is asleep so I just get on with it, except vacuume clean. Its great though because I my days are free to relax or do things that i enjoy.

I only sleep about 4 hours a night until I get totally exhausted and then I will sleep a full 6 hours. (Bad parent thing still keeps me up at night) Anyway, when I can't sleep, I still have to be quiet because everyone else is still sleeping. I usually just go to my office and read or something. If my husband can't sleep, he hangs all over me. He puts of a HUGE amount of heat! It usually puts him to sleep though. Then he starts snoring in my ear and I just move a little and he rolls away :-)

I know what you mean about HUGE amounts of heat! It must be a man thing cos my hubby is the same. I tell him it is like laying next heater sometimes! He isn't one to hang all over me, (at least if he is trying to go to sleep!!)
Got a question for you what is Bad parent thing that keeps you up?
Thanks for the reply to by the way.
=)

I know that my hubby has a hard time getting to sleep so I don't mind sometimes, because I almost feel guilty that I can go to sleep so easy. It is good that you understand each others need for sleep and act accordingly. I guess my hubby has layed there for a while trying to get to sleep and maybe if he wakes me up he can talk about what is keeping him up and then maybe get some sleep. :)

Exactly. I think it make sense to talk if something is troubling you and you are not getting sleep because of that problem. Otherwise, it is ok to wake your other half if you know that her day was not hectic and maybe she would also be willing to have some beautiful and romantic time

Very true, it is nice when he surprises me during the night for some 'romantic time'. It is just about learning to read if the other needs the sleep or not. My hubby is actually pretty good at this, just that I am a bit of a grumpy bum when I first wake up!

If I can't sleep, I watch a DVD. I have a small portable one that sits next to my pillow. I have become very dependant on it the past few months. My husband bought it for me a few days before he walked out, so I used it to cope and keep my mind from driving me crazy. Now I watch it when I shower, when I first wake up and while I get ready, and when I go to bed. If I wake up and can't sleep, I goes back on.

It sounds like you have worked out what helps you, I am sorry your hubby walked out, I know that you dont know me and my saying that doesnt really help but I am sorry. Life deals us sh*t cards in life when we least expect it, but at least you seem to have found a way to cope, and DVD's is a good one. We can go places and be a part of the unreal when watching a DVD, we dont have to think about anything except what we choose to watch. What are your fav DVD's? Do you fall asleep when watching them at night or they just help you get sleepy and you can turn it off and sleep?

Sorry I didn't notice that you asked me this many months ago. But I see it now, SO I can answer. "Friends" helped me through the ordeal. I have the complete series and just kept going through it over and over. I watch it until I am dozing off, then turn it off. Now I am into "Scrubs" and my brother has all of my "Friends". I also watch "That 70's Show", so pretty much those two keep my mind off of depressing things.
It's funny, Eric thought I watched "Friends" too much while he was around, so I felt it was fitting that that became ALL I watched for about 4 months. I did end up making myself sick of it, but that's ok. After a break, and I get sick of Scrubs, I will go back to it,

i call my girlfriend up when i get up at night and if i cant get sleep, and she tells me stories and after that all becomes good :) Literally puts me to sleep she does, cant help it after all her voice is so soothing and relaxing, and the very thought of being in her presence relaxes me and keeps me happy and i guess that explains the sleep i get :)

Since I am a widow I get up and log on at
Mylot to see what the night time people discuss.
There is a different bunch on at night and I bet you guys
never check to see what they discuss.
I go back to the last page and I have found some good discussions.

If i wake up during the night and cant get back to sleep then I don't try to sleep immediately. I turn on my computer and do some of my daily job and I read some e-bboks of my interest .When I feel sleepy I go to bed. But your case is something different. If there is a good understanding between you and your hubby then you can discuss this matter .Don't try to say all at a once . take time and think that you are discusssing with a child not a n adult.

I think you may have misunderstood, I don't have a real problem with it, but thank you for your advice. My hubby and I talk well, I tease him about waking me up, it is a bit of a joke between us. I don't talk to him as though he are a child though, I don't see how that would help, but thanks anyway. :)

If i woke up in the middle of my sleep at night, I wouldn't wake up my other half nor get up and do something else. I would just think of some things that happened to me on that day or to my life. Since I'm at peace that time, then I could think very well and even plan things out.

It is good that you can can fall asleep easily once you get tired after surfing the net, I do find the computer makes my eyes tired so this probably helps you feel tired as your eyes get to a point of not focusing, that is a sign for me that it is time to stop for a rest! Thanks tracy1985. :)

Usually if I wake up in the middle of the night, I don't wake my other half up unless he's the reason I woke up (arm across the face, etc). I usually take Tylenol PM every night before bed (insomnia problems) so I don't usually wake up. However, I know that when my other half wakes up, he typically is so quiet and careful not to wake me up, that I rarely do. He's very considerate, although I probably wouldn't mind it so much if he did wake me up. It's one of the things that I kind of see as sweet I suppose.

Most of the days, I will go to sleep within a few minutes after I lie down for sleep. But at few days when I dont get sleep such as the days where we dont have power etc., I will try to play with my Laptop, or Mobile. Or I will try to read some books, until I get tired and get some good sleep. But a word of caution here to those who take sleeping pills, please dont make that an habit.

It is good that you can get a good sleep at night especially if you have to work hard during the day. I notice you said your 'better half' what does that make you?lol. I use to try the counting thing when I was younger but I had forgotten about that one. Thanks.

Interesting. Well i m single so the matter of waking up the partner doesnt arise. But ya when i can get sleep normally i get up and listen to songs on my player. If that doesnt work then i just switch on the comp and end up doing some work or the other.
