What do you do when you have a cold or the flu. I have a stuffed up nose, sneezing heaps, sore eyes, etc. I have tried heaps of different stuff, but nothing helps. Have you got any good remedies that you would like to share? It would be much appreciated. Thanks

idealy, i wrap myself up and take to my bed. I really like to have a tot of whisky in hot milk too and will stay there until it passes. However as a busy mum with a full time job, what i tend to do is carry on and ignore it

Hello kayrod2,
I have not been sik for years. I hade siknesses four times a year for about 15 years ago. But I had the helthcare to take away my tonsills removed and after that I got free of my colds that I hade every year more than once. But I usally make a drink of water, lemon and drink. I can make drink of water and honing. I use spray for my nose where you can by at the store for healthcaremedicin. Other wice you just take it easy and sleep a lot. In few days It will blow over.

Drink plenty of fluids to help break up your congestion. Drinking water or juice will prevent dehydration and keep your throat moist. You should drink at least 8-10, 8-ounce cups of water daily.
Fluids might include water, sports drinks, herbal teas, fruit drinks, or ginger ale. Your mother's chicken soup really can help.
You can give your children colas, but don't include them in the 8-10 cups of fluid per day. Cola, coffee, and other drinks with caffeine work to increase urine output when your goal is to increase fluids in your system.
Inhaled steam may ease your congestion and drippy nose.

I use olbas oil in my burner, which is eucalyptus based and clears your head and nose. You just need a few drops in the dish of the burner in some water, and keep the candle burning beneath and the water and oil topped up.
I also put a few drops of it in the bath, as mixed with the steam, it clears your throat and head and relaxes you with its warmth on your body. Then, I'll put a few drops on my tissues, and on my pillow, to decongest while I sleep. It's worth a try my friend.
In England, you can buy this from pharmacies and supermarkets. I don't know which stores will stock it in Australia but it would be worth hunting it down.
Brightest Blessings.

I havent heard of olbas oil, but i will look into it. I do use eucalyptus though. Even when not sick i use it, as i love the smell. I find it good for the kids too. I am getting much better now, which is good. The weather doesnt help though. Do hope the weather is clearing up over your way.
Thanks for your response, Darkwing, and i will look into the olbas oil.

Try some lemon, honey and brandy in water as hot as you can stand. Also a nasal decongestant sounds like a good idea. It sounds like a head cold so rest up (yeah, I know, how are you supposed to do that?) get the kids to help out. If you feel like you can sleep and have a doonah, wrap yourself in the doonah and that should make you sweat. A cold only lasts a few days but you need to stop it going to your chest. Vicks vapour rub is good too. Eucalyptus oil in a bowl of hot water is good too. Put a towel over your head as you lean over the bowl and breathe the vapours in through your nose. Keep you eyes shut.
Chicken soup really does help to fix things. If you can handle it chomp down on a clove or two of garlic. Last but not least, cayenne pepper also makes you sweat, if you can figure out a way of getting it past your taste buds you'll be fine.
Hope you're feeling better soon sweety.

Thanks for your ideas, tickle, they are good. Ive just put the electric blanket on so i tucked up in bed last night with it on high for as long as i could. Been using the chest rub and eucalyptus. The brandy sounds good, might have to give that a try. I love garlic but the cayenne pepper i couldnt stomach.
Thanks for your response, and best wishes

I think the best thing you can do is try and get as much rest as possible. I hate it when I get a cold because I don't get much time to rest with four kids. I have tried cold and flu tablets but they don't really do anything for me. I hope you feel better soon.

I dont know but I seldom got cold o flu.. and if ever i have...I dont usually drink medicine. I just drink a plenty of fluids like water and juices and take a lot of rest. Then the day after that I will be feeling fine again. The last rime that I had a fever was when I was 17 years old... and right now I am 25 years old.

I have cold and i cough sometimes. This is due to the changing of environment and the weather. I think water is best remedy. I said that because i have a friend that always having trouble about cold and she is always drinking lots of water. I did that sometime but its my nature not really drinking water even it is good for you. If it is cold weather i feel sick and have cold but i think my system is not use to the temperature here in US.

Well for me, I try running, every time I do that, it always helps. Everytime I run, I always get back the sensational feeling of being able to breath again. :)
