What makes Earl Gray tea taste so peppery?

I've never cared for Earl Gray tea. To me, it tastes too much like pepper. Does all Earl Gray tea taste like pepper, or does it depend on the brand you use?

Earl Gray is one of my favorites. It does have a peppery taste but I have noticed it more so with some brands than with others. So I bet it depends on the type you use. The slightest bit of honey will make that peppery taste a lot more sublte.

it tastes kind of odd to me too-i can't put my finger on what exactly.. my brother loves the stuff though..i let him have it.
