How can we help a dog if he's choking while eating his bone meat? I really feel sorry to our old dog because just recently we give him a meat that has also a little bones on it which we thought he loves eating those bones as he usually did. We just found out a little later that he seems keeps on groaning outside the gate and he really tried to get rid of the bone that stuck on his throat, I wanted to do something to help our dog but I just dont know how. All i'm doing is giving him something to drink but it seems not working and up to now he's still suffering with the bone stuck on his throat. What should we do?
Please if you could share some advice about this matter, I would be very much appreciate it a lot. Thanks in advance to all!

It's been three days since you posted this, and I sincerely hope Blu is better by now. That is so scary when something like that happens. Your best bet is to try to call a veterinarian or animal control to get the best advice, because sometimes when you try to remove a bone like that yourself, it can cause damage to the throat and esophagus. I'm sorry for being a bit late in responding to you on this hon...I've been doing so much running around driving friends to appointments that this is the first moment's peace I've had in three weeks. I hope your baby is alright. Hugs to you hon.

That is such a big relief. I was really worried....you know how much I love animals. Please keep an eye on him still. You might want to take him to the vet so that Blu can be xrayed to make sure the bone isn't stuck in his stomach or intestines. That can cause a lot of problems too. If he has trouble doing his "business" outside, the bone may be stuck and causing a blockage. I'm not trying to worry you hon. I just want to make sure he's really ok so that you'll have your baby around for a long long time. Hugs to you hon.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts hon, yeah thankfully Blu is now okay from those incident that happen to him last 3 days ago. I don't know how he make the bone gone himself without the help of others, I just found out the next day that he can bark normally and eat normally as usual. I'm just very thankful and I thank you all my friends as well for your concern about my baby's health. :-)

Thank you so much hon for your concerns. Yeah, I would take that advice for the sake of Blu's health and I don't want him to suffer in the long run if ever something's not wrong regarding his health. I would just keep my eyes on him, checking him out in a regular basis to see if there's something I will find out isn't right in him, then that's the time I would take him to the vet to get a check. Thanks once again hon.

Give him bread to eat, that may help. My mom always did that for us, or for the cats if we got bones stuck. Otherwise, you will need to take him to a vet. Bones sometimes splinter and get stuck under the skin in the throat.

Well, if you can't get the bone out of his throat for him, then you should take him to the vet. If he doesn't end up choking and then dying, the bone will injure his throat and can cause a bacterial infection that will make him sick or kill him. Giving him water isn't going to help make the bone slide down his throat. If he is tense already that bone isn't going anywhere and I am sure the tissue surrounding it is just going to stay swollen and keep is from sliding. His muscles aren't helping him swallow it or throw it up, so there is no other choice at this point. Poor dog, I would be on the way to the vet if my dog were going through this. I couldn't do anything if I knew he was suffering.

Take him to the vet immediately! Or try to take it out if you can. The small bones are not good for dogs or cats for this reason. Let me know how he is doing.

Hi hun, thanks for sharing. Yeah, i'm just truly surprised knowing that he's no longer suffering about the bone on his throat. I have in mind that maybe he was really trying to help himself to get rid of it and he succeeded it and for now i'm just really thankful to God for his guidance of my dog.:-)
