You earn respect by being in a behavioral pattern of showing respect to others . It's such a kind of mutual affair...giving respect and taking respect .

BE YOURSELF - it is the best way to earn other's respect. They respect you the way you are... who you are and what you are ... so it's better be yourself to earn other's respect. The more you are not yourself, the more people look at you are fake and no respect you.

I do notice that some people ignores me and disrespect me too. However, I have managed to earn some respect from the people around me especially my course mate. What I did was I try my best to be outspoken and outperform others in all aspects possible. So much so that people will have the perception that I am a good performer and I am good. When they recognize my ability and skills, they gradually started to respect me. ![](/Content/images/emotes/cool.gif)

it is listening when someone else is talking
not gossiping about a former friend is respectful communication
playing by the rules in class is a sign of cooperation
resepectfully taking care of your sisters clothes that you borrow will show her you are considerate of her things and it just may earn you frequent borrower miles!
the simple polite act of holding the door open for a stranger is a way to respect that person.
