Oh, that has still to come. I've been married for almost 20 years now and I have never cooked for my in laws. I've made snacks for them (i.e. I went to the bakery and bought them *lol*), but that's it! My MIL knows I'm not a good cook and besides I don't think she will eat my food anyway since we have different religions and I think she's scared I will put pork in the food. But I have cooked with her and her maid several times, at their house.
Good luck! I'm sure you'll do just fine. Making several dishes is a good idea, that way you can't go wrong, they're bound to like something. You could start practising now, decide what dishes you will make (think about the ingredients you will find in your country) and then do them over and over again until you know them by heart. Then you're going to impress your MIL!

I am not the worlds greatest cook but my fiancee hounded me to cook dinner for the family one night. The only thing that I feel I cook that well is stir fry. One Saturday night I cooked stir fry for my soon to be mother in law, my fiancee and her three children. My mother in law complimented me on how good my stir fry was. It was a little over done but she still gave me a compliment.
You could explain to your mother in law that you don't have that much experience cooking and would she please help you by teaching you to cook. Be open and honest with her, she will probably be happy to teach you.

You can ask them what they like before cooking anything and if there is anything they are allergic to. You can also find out if they like spicy or non-spicy food. Then, you can look online for ideas for different recipes. To be on the safe side, you can make a few dishes. Try to look for ideas with varying degrees of difficulty or work required. Or even look for some stuff you can make the day before. That way, you don't have to spend the whole day cooking for a meal! Whenever I know my in-laws are coming to visit or when we visit them, I like to make homecook meals. I will make a salad, a main dish (usually meat), a side dish and dessert.
