Welcome to myLot. I hope you get several answers to this discussion. Are you getting treatment for your scoliosis? There are some exercises designed to help prevent it from getting worse and for relieving some of the pain. Since I am not a physical therapist, I don't know which exercises are the right ones. You can also try self-hypnosis. Why don't you do a web search on that subject and learn how to do it. It is fairly easy, but does require some practice. You can using breathing techniques to reduce pain, also, as well to put you in a trance for relaxation. Here is a simple one: Breathe in on the slow count of five. Hold your breath for about 3 counts and say to your self "I'm more relaxed and feeling better". Then breathe out to a slow count of seven. Do this several times as one exercise and do it several times a day, every day. It is a way of training your mind and your muscles to relax on command. This is just one of many techniques that could help. Good luck.

A vestibular doctor is the first person I would see, as most scoliosis research has been now pointing towards inner ear problems as the culprit in idiopathic scoliosis. If you have no inner ear problems (it's not a hearing problem, but a balance problem - you may not know it, the tests will help, it's an easy fix). Most people use exercise and stretching, but they are like a band-aid that doesn't resolve the real issue if you do have a vestibular issue. It'd be like constantly replaces the tires on a car, although you had a bad tire alignment vs. having bad tires.

Hello!! I have a 3 curve scoliosis. My biggest curve is 44 degrees. I have pain almost every day. It's a miracle if I don't!!!I did physical therapy for 6 months and that REALLY helped!! I didn't have pain for the longest time!!! And tricare covered it!! But I haven't done any PT since then because my husband got out of the military and now I just can't afford it. I work out when I can to strengthen my back because I know that will help it. Pain killers don't work either, but I do eat about 3000mg of motrin a day!!! It helps take the edge off!!! There's really no way to correct the curves. You can always have surgery, but that's one thing I won't do. Just keep your back muscles strong :) good luck and congrats on the wedding!

yes i do ,it is so horrible,i am miserable and angry most of the time because of the pain.i also get headaches every day too,& i take codiene for that, half the time it doesnt work because i take too much..i have had scoliosis for the past 28 years,i use to use antiflamotory tablets on prescription, they worked great for a few years, then they stopped working then just gave me really bad stomach pain.the only way i can get rid of the pain is to lay down between 1 to 2 hours.this really annoys me if i have to go out or get things done.years ago i use to go to a chiropractor 3 times a week, that helped a bit,now i am on the disability pension i cannot afford to go. i have heard u can have an operation for scoliosis, but if they stuff it up u could become a paraplejec(sorry about the spelling)i dont think the operation is worth taking the risk.i have been told that exercises can strenghen your back & help holding u up.if u find out any answers for pain relief or curing scoliosis, could u please let me know,i would greatly appreciate it

hi, First see your deviation of curve if it ranges from 1-30% you need to do some excercises but if more than 60%it requires operation so don't worry consult a doctor immidiately.I am also having scoliosis about 9% my doctor has sugested me some excercises I to have back but it has reduced. If you tell me where you live It can suggest you my doctor. my email:- ritz_lovelyy@rediffmail.com

I dont have pain, but my brother has scoliosis, its a curve in the spine isnt it? He has to put up with it now as hes too old for the operation to fix it i think, because it works as you grow. my cousin also had it and had she had an operation to fix it while she was still young, i remember her having to wear a back brace for a while. i would suggest seeing you doctor if you havent alredy and maybe he can help with pain relief or something.
