Help! I have stray cats in my back yard.

Recently, several stray cats have started using our back yard as their own personal litter box. This is very unsanitary for us, since we have a small child who loves to play outdoors. How can we discourage the strays from hanging around the back yard? Is there a product that can be sprayed onto the grass or back yard fence to discourage their new habit? Please help. It's not just annoying, but I'm sure it could cause illness in humans.

You may want to fence in your backyard to keep the cats away from your yard and making a mess. That is probably the best solution to keeping them from messing in your yard like that. Of course the fence would have to be high enough where they can not climb over it. We get stray cats here as well where I live, though one of my neighbors took one in and has been taking care of him.

Maybe you could get a puppy, :) I have heard that lemon peel distracts them but I am not sure if that works, I like to think of the positive in a situaltion, yes it can be unhealthy if your little ones go digging in the dirt but then having cats hanging around probably discourages mice and rats which I know from my own experience can be very unhealthy but also dangerous, maybe it would be easier to teach your little one to be careful and aware while playing... just a thought...
