Has anyone heard of cat acne?

A friend of mine swears that her cat gets acne. But, I've never heard of this before. I've had cats for years, and never noticed acne on their skin. Can a cat really get acne or pimples? And, what can you do about it?

They can get a little acne like rash on their chin. The cat sanctuary where I got my cat told us to put human acne treatment (like clearasil) on it if he got any.

Yes. One of my cats has feline acne. I check his chin about once a week, and though it's gross and uncomfortable for both of us, I remove the blackheads he gets and take care of the pimples. To cut down on the problem, I have a brick on the floor next to the litter box that he can rub his chin on. He uses it a few times a week. It hasn't completely eliminated the problem, but it definitely helps.

Thankyou for your help. I will try this idea also. I think he will like the brick idea because he rubs his face on everything anyway. Maybe it's his way of scratching his face.

Yes, your friend is right. Yes, the cats can get it near their lips. It comes from drinking and eating out of a plastic dish. Tell your friend to switch to glass, and keep it very clean. Eventually, the pimples will go away.

One of my cats had acne, not anymore, it simply vanished. I think she had acne for about 1 year when she was 8, I guess... Now she's 10.

Maybe it's like human acne, and only something they get during their cat teen years. Guess it's possible. Thanks for sharing.
