What are normal coping skills supposed to be anyway?

We all have coping skills, whatever that means, right? We all have ways of venting frustrations, of getting our point across and our choices known when no one's listening or acts like we don't matter and should not have a voice anyway, right? We all have ways to deal with life's ups and downs that are our own right? So are your coping skills normal or do you or others think you're crazy? I call myself the crazy lady but it's after years of hearing I was supposed to be crazy because I acted it trying to lose unwanted interest by an unwanted pursuer. I've developed some strange habits and coping skills from that experience and when I find myself stuck in ugly memories from the past they shine! How about you?

Basic? Learning to deal and pick up new coping skills. Facing up to things Being able to think clearly (after thinking) I'm not really sure what else I could add. :) ~Joey

Well I would say I used to be normal. I found it hard to deal with certain things and I had to learn to manage that. After I had experienced certain things In my life I learnt to cope with a lot of pain which was inflicted and that's made me the way I am now. From before it's certainly different. :) ~Joey

Thanks for the added explanation. What we go through does change us, very much so. Thanks for the comments:)

Joey thanks for your input. So do you think you're normal or unique with your coping skills?

Not everyone has "normal" coping skills. Some people have none at all and can't deal with the smallest upset in their lives. Unfortunately I'm one of those people and if I didn't have the medication that I take I probably wouldn't be alive to talk about it.

Exactly, I don't believe any of us have "normal" coping skills as we are each unique. Thanks for proving my point.

if you call yourself a crazy lady because of the way you cope up with things happening in your life, i am a crazy woman, too. i guess we all have weird ways in coping up. just that not all are ready to accept that fact. anyway, when i am frustrated, or not in the mood, or stressed, i just go to my room and try and take a nap. if i can't, i'll just watch movies or log in here in myLot. when trying to forget people's faults on me, i just can't find myself forgetting. i do forgive. but the forgetting part has always been difficult eversince. ... anne

anne - thanks for the laugh. I so appreciate it :) I forgive, but not forget and forgiveness does not mean I allow it to continue. It ends and needs to or I will find another way to deal with the wrongdoer. Guaranteed! Thanks for commenting.

Hi MJLami. I'm really not sure what normal coping skills are. Just like you I have been through alot of tough times in my life. I have developed ways to cope with things and that usually involves not dealing with things at all, not showing emotion and such. As for your coping skills shining, I know exactly what you are saying. I tend to become very judgemental, I tend to analyze other's actions and motives and lack trust. It's a miserable way to be but what can you do, right? have a good day=)

Thank you so much for understanding me. Yes, I think it does lead to no longer trusting and analyzing their actions and motives. It certainly has for me. I so appreciate your comments. I hope you also have a good day :)
