300 is an absolutely terrific movie. the attitude, the valour the spartans display send a chill down my spine. so much to keep their honour. they challenged and even demured a person who projected himself as god. i think they were bogged down by the wrong priests who just had no respect for these warriors. my personal favorite line in the movie when the king says : SPARTANS NEVER RETREAT!!!!!!!!!!. the greatest sequence when the king as a young lad fights the beast and also , when he kicks the intruder into the well..THEIR FRIEND, THE HUNCHBACK WAS THE CAUSE OF ALL TROUBLE..

because the damn hunchback who was declined by leonaidas to join the army due to his incapabilty to hold his shield up high sell them to the persian god.told him where their passage was and where is the most opportune place to contain them.but even though the spartans had an idea about this they still preceeded they knew already about the treachery that was happening in sparta.the movie was imphasizing how strong spartans were during that time

i feel leonidas knew they were betrayed.. that is y he sends one soldier back 2 sparta. and the reason they were surrounded by persians in the end was because of the traitor guy who was deformed and goes to xerexes.. leonidas did not take his people back because of the spartan ego that they have.. never to bow down to any one.. so he decided to giv it his best shot to kill xerexes and defeat the persians or take down as many of them as they could..

I think they did, but they were planning to sacrifice themselves and kill as many Persians as they could so they could die with glory while stalling for time to amass the huge army of Greeks and Spartans.

They knew there were coming but they stayed there to die with honour, and to scare the hell out of the Persians, If 300 soliders will stand and face they whole army what's waiting for them in Sparta?
