When do you say no to drug therapy for MS? I was told I had MS five years ago. The drugs available to me are very harsh on your internal organs, and cause you to feel ill. I have not had any changes to speak of since the onset five years ago. I opted not to take any drugs because they only slow the progression by 3%. I just don't feel for me that the risk of damaging my organs is worth the 3% slow down...especially since I have not been progressing.
I know for alot of others this is not an option...I know alot of you are progressing quickly...and need hope and help.
I can only hope I don't regret my decission to not take the drugs!!

I was diagnosed two years ago with MS, relapsing and remitting, and the doctor put me on Avonex. It had horrible side effects, making me feel ill all the time, giving me migraines headaches, and even leading to a small cataract in my left eye. But after two years on the stuff I just got off it as it was starting to damage my liver. The doctor wants to reevaluate my meds next month and discuss the next option, but I am leaning towards NONE. The disease seems to be progressing not at all in the last two years and the medication made me seriously ill. Like my husband said, if the question is deal with what might happen from the MS and what is definitely happening from the medication (liver damage), where is the good option?

I understand and don't blame you I tryed to go without taking medications myself but I ended up needed steriods every 3 months. I am on rebif but I still have problems. I also take zocor it is to lowe cholestral but it has helped me out as far as staying out of not having to have steriods but I have to keep a check on my liver a lot. As long as your not having a lot of problems I wouldn't worry about taking shots either.

Well my Doctor wanted me to go on Tysabri and I was like No Way I dont feel that bad that I have to worry about dying while I take that Stuff. I'am not getting any better but I'am not getting to Bad that I need to be pumped full of that Junk. I told him I will stay On my Rebif and that was that. I Have had 17 Knee Surgeries and two knee Replacements so Now I can no longer walk. It's hard but my Family and my Wife are by my side every step of the Way which is Great For me.
Have a Great Day/ight.
