Newest Addition

Kay Gray Grapes - This is my newest baby in my yard now. Look on the right vine about middle of it. That's one cluster. I have a close up of that cluster I'll add soon.

This is Grandpa Bobs newest addition to my ever growing garden. While shopping today wiyh my daughter and grandsons we stopped at Pahl's market near my daughters house. This place is humongous. I could not believe the size of this place. Anyhow heres a link just for kicks. Now on to my neweset addition. I had wanted grapes since a child. We had green and purple grapes at home growing up. Mom made fresh jellies and jams all the time. I missed picling them daily in the summer months. So now I've added one vine so far. This is a Kay Gray Grape. Its green small to medium grapes a bit tart for eating and wine making. No wine here though just gonna eat them. There are a couple clusters already formed so I'll have some grapes soon. Tee hee. Now I know that's lazy but it was a great looking vine and only $10.99 before tax. Most I've looked at were $15 and up. So here's the photo of it. It may keep Buster off the fence. In this area anyhow for now. HAHAHA. Have a great day/evening. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Oh my great aunt and uncle had grapes! I just love them. I don't have any grapes but I do have muscadines, and blackberries. I actually got 10 blackberries off them yesterday! I didn't expect to find any so I was happily surprised!

LOL Opps! Muscadines! Do you know them? I don't know if we will have any. We had a big freeze in April and it lost all new growth. I meant to look yesterday when I looked at the blackberries, but decided to pull some honeysuckle and for got. I will have to go check them. I will take my camera just for you!=o}

Yummmm grapes are the best!!!! Great choice. And cheap too!! My mom used to take grapes, and put them in the sun and make homeade raisins for us growing up and let me tell you, that was the grossest thing I have ever eaten and me and my brother both won't touch a raisin now, hahahahah! Just wanted to share!

Yummmmm, grapes! My uncle used to grow grapes and I remember as young girl I loved to go to his house and eat grapes off the vine! Should you have extas, I could send you my mailing address...Ha! Enjoy your new 'baby,' you have inspired me. I might see if hubby would grow some grapes for me on our trellis that surrounds a propane tank.

Oh you lucky devil you! I once bought a place that had a grape vine which produced a few clumps of delicious black grapes each year. I enjoy my garden, but I'm not a very good gardener. My Dad has lots of vines at his place but the birds get them now. We used to put the nets over them but it became more trouble trying to get the tangles out each year...and the birds were still managing to get in. I gave dad a realistic looking plastic snake to put on the fence where the vine grows to try and discourage the birds but he gave it to one of the great grandkids. Hmphh! That's gratitude for you. LOL.

Grapes! Wow! that would be something to have here in my country. But we could never grow grapes here. Our soil and weather condition does not permit the growth of such yummy kind of plants/vines, unless of course, its in a greenhouse.

You also can make your own greenhouse for cheap too. A wooden or bamboo framework with thick sturdy plastic hung over it and tacked or tied onto it works. Set a misting sprinkler inside and ya got a greenhouse. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It's that easy? I checked here in one of our malls and it was so expensive. The walls and roof would be made of a material like a fiberglass that would just allow certain heat or sunlight to penetrate and it was so small. I thought, nevermind, because if ever I want a greenhouse, I want to have it bigger wherein I could really grow those plants that I want. Thanks for the info Grandpa Bob!

how fun! we have wild grape vines growing like mad in the woods behind our house and those roots pop up in our back yard, the vines look to want to strangle or block the light from any other tree... but these grapes are called fox grapes. not sure they have any commercial or palatable value.

If you live in the southeast they may be muscadines or scuppernongs. You can check with the links I gave on my response. I eat ours although they are bit tart they are quite good, and VERY good for you. I do not eat the skin myself, but the seeds I do. LOL

We have wild grapes growing in the woods around us like mad. The ones I can reach, I pick and eat. They are pretty tasty although more seed than flesh in them.

lucky you. My grapes had just gotten to where they were doing well, after much abuse and neglect while my loved ones were dying (long story) So the spiteful rental management person had someone come in and cut them to the ground, about 15 months ago. It was kind of like, "It is done, you cannot do anything to me." She is a hateful biddy. While the house was vacant, I took pains to move the fencing that provided them support to the other side of the plants, so it will not happen again. Now I am nursing them back to health.All three finally came back. We had a late freeze this year, I got no grapes, cherries, or pears. I had gotten my grapes many years ago from Jackson and Perkins. It was a red, white, and blue collection of seedless grapes. Something about grapes in your own yard, your own garden, is just absolutely heady and sweet. They taste nothing like the ones in the store.

True, it could well keep Buster off the fence. But hge might eat the grapes. Our dogs do, especially the little mni foix terrier. She looks so funny carrying a bunch of grapes in her mouth. gRapes are toxic to dogs by the way, but probably only in large quantities. Seriously, not only is it nice to have grapes to eat, but they vines do look atractive. I rated your photo & wrote a comment.

Well he won't be eating them for a few years. Once it's growing well and producing a lot then he can have at it. But for now he will be disciplined not to go near it. He is already starting to learn my yelling, "No fence" and he runs away from it. So hopefully he will not even venture near the fence. yeah right. HAHAHA!! Thanks as usual. The plant you picked out is so nice looking. You definitely have "the touch" when it comes to gardening. (Wanna come perk mine up? LOL). My dad used to grow grapes on a large arbor, and they tasted so good, we'd argue over who was getting how many grapes from each bunch!

wow - flowers first, grapes next, what then? An entire botanic gardens? Looks like you've been planting hard, grandpa! grapes are one of my favourite fruits. are these seedless or with seed? being lazy, my favourite are the seedless ones so I don't have to spit out the pits. Another favourite of mine are cherries? Thought of growing those? Are they off trees instead of vines though? So sorry, I'm quite bad at this. I think cherry trees sound familiar. I love cherries - they seem to be in season now!

Ooh, grapes! I love eating grapes. I've never eaten grapes straight off the vine before, but I would definitely love to try one day. Too bad my country's too hot and humid (not to mention too crowded) for a vineyard :(
