What is the longest your tv has been off for. My mother in law has to turn the tv on as soon as she gets up and it stays on until the whole family is in bed. It is on even when noone is home! When we go to work in the summer we are gone for 10 out of 14 days so we usually cancel our satelite dish. It drove her nuts so much that we didn't have tv for the 4 days we were home that she put it in her name and hooked it back up. When she comes here and the tv isn't on she askes why not or is it broken? I am not a tv person and since my hubby has been gone it hasn't been on, which was a week ago and it won't be on until he gets back probably. So what is the longest your tv has been off for?

Oh we usually give our TVs a good rest.
We switch them on when we need them and let them sleep when we sleep. And we do sleep.
I hate those people who leave their TVs on while sleeping - for no valid reason.

Is there really anything on the tv that you need them on for? What am I missing with not having the tv on for the passed week? Mine is getting a long nap this time it is going to think we have abandoned it. LOL. I can hear the tv from our bedroom so if I go to bed before my hubby then I can still hear the tv and it is very annoying to me. I have come back upstairs and turned it down so I couldn't hear it so much. He does turn it off when he goes to sleep though which is good. Thanks for the comment.

Let it be abandoned then. Saves electricity, and you'll be doing your part to reduce noise pollution.

My husband turns the TV on to watch news before work and he is the one that turns it on in the evening to watch before bed. I don't watch that much TV, either.
If I am the only one home it doesn't normally come on only to watch a few minutes of news. My kids don't care for TV much, either. My youngest has one in his bedroom that is rarely on unless he is playing a video game. I could easily live without it.

Oh, my brother never shuts his TV off. Even when he is not home he leaves it on so that his dog doesn't become lonely or bored..LOL..I think that is funny...

That is good that the kids don't like tv either. My hubby will watch Y&R and he like little miracles and House and bones. He has other shows at night he will watch I am just not sure what they are. LOL. He will watch a dumb show and I will comment on it and he's like well there's nothing else on! Gee maybe that would be a good time to turn it off?

It depends who is in! I am very busy (not boasting) and I tend to plan my viewing, always stopping for an hour to watch my "soaps" at which time I also make our evening meal, and noting any programme I truly wish to see and watching that.
My partner tends to have the TV on for much longer and my Father in Law, when he is home is much the same as your Mother in Law.
If I am home alone on a weekend the TV is only on for one hour. If the in law is here the longest it will be off for is if we have a power cut - and ooooooooooh the pain!

The only trouble with a lack of electricity is that I can not get on line either, but oh, sometimes the peace and quiet is absolutely wonderful!
I watch the soaps because I enjoy them and more importantly they are short, so if I am really busy they do not take too much out of the day.
When I do watch a film it is then a real treat and I enjoy watching it much more than i would if the noise was just "wallpaper". I moved into another room to work at my studies and internet sites just to get some peace!
I do enjoy the TV that I do watch though.

I left my TV on for 72 hours once. I was going away and in my apartment guide they recommend you turn on your TV when you leave, so people will think someone is home, and might not try to break in or anything. I know people might get on to me for "wasting" energy, but if it makes them feel better I turn my air conditioner off when I'm gone. Besides, I'd rather waste energy than have my place burglarized.

Hahaha no worries. I have migraines as well so I know what you mean! I had a headache once and we had company but I went to lie down for a bit and they were getting louder and louder finally I came out and smacked him across the head and told him to shut up. I didn't hit him hard but it was enough to quiet him down some. LOL Thanks for the comment.

The longest my tv has been off was about two weeks. It was when we went on vacation when I was a kid. I rarely watching tv at home coz the prorams are bored and many programs repeated twice or more. Sometimes I watch tv at night for about an hour. But I prefer listening music in my room. I never leave the tv on when noone's watching coz it's a wasting energy :)

hi tammy,
well, i think we have some sensible timing and sensible hours of TV watching. lol..
my mom watches it a hour in the afternoon after she is through her chores. with no one around she sits with the crossword and switches on the TV. i don't think, she sees it much. its more of a presence of something else that matters for her. in the evening i take charge with no one allowed to touch the remote. the moment i enter after my work i have to have it on, no matter what. and it goes on and on for 3 hours or so till i get to sleep.
i wish i could be like you, restrained and without TV!! it really requires some strength to refrain for the lures of TV these days. but then, you must be having your own passtime!!

If the tv goes on here then it is on till we go to bed whether someone is watching it or not. I really enjoy the no tv when my hubby is gone. LOL taking charge of the remote is good! I don't bother unless my hubby isn't around then I will change the channel or turn it off if what is playing is annoying me. I just don't even think of the tv I always have my music playing on the computer so there is always something going. I spend several hours on the computer a day which isn't much better than the tv but at least I am making money with the computer he just spends it with the tv. LOL

Oh my – sometimes our TV sits there unused for 3 or 4 days at a time – sometimes longer. We really don’t watch it much at all. Thje only reason we have it is for the football to which my partner is addicted (LOL!), but out of season, or when their isn’t a match on TV, we never bother to switch it on. We prefer to read, listen to music, or maybe even talk instead – LOL!. I actually hate TV just being on in the background with no one watching it – drives me completely nuts! Most of the stuff here in the UK is inane rubbish anyway – reality shows and celebrity stuff – don’t really want to be involved with it at all.

LOL My thought exactly! Although neither my hubby and I are sports buffs he does have shows he HAS to watch every day of the week so when he is home it is always on as well. What gets me is he puts it on then goes and does something outside. Drives me insane! Thanks for the comment.

Well I do not much watch much T.V as I do not get the time due to my job but on weekends I do watch a little T.V but over all I'd say I'm not an addict and the same goes for my family, they just watch programs of their interest.

The TV sleeps when the family is sleeping. It works when the family starts working. Everyday, my mum will switch on the TV at about 11 am, and it will continue to work until the time I sleep, which is about 2 hours past midnight. In between, the TV might get a short nap when my mum goes out of the house.

I don't see the point of having the tv on when noone is up or watching it for that matter. I know some people that watch the news all day and that would drive me nuts. It is the same thing over and over again every half hour. It's good to give it a nap. Thanks for the comment.

when the Cable introduced in India, I used to watch 8 hours continously subsequently the interest to watch TV slowly went down. Now a days I watch whenever good programs are there otherwise TV used to be off. My wife never used to watch TV earlier but after her volutary retirement, she has no work, she watch TV for 12 hours daily.

Yes I think that was the same with everyone. We still can't get cable where we are but we have a dish instead. I still have so much I can do around the house that tv is just not an interest. If it goes on then I don't get anything done. Thanks for the comment.

We have a light above the kitchen sink that is on 24/7 so if we go out and don't get back till late then that gives us light. Our dog is outside all the time now. If I need background noise then I have tunes on. The flickering of the tv bothers me at night. Thanks for the comment

given the choice, my son would watch t.v all day lol. but me personally i couldn't give a toffee for it!
when my son spent a week at my mothers, i didn't turn it on once! i would much rather play music while i do things, t.v is boring, most programs are repeats, and those that aren't still don't interest me lol.

It has never been off as long as Im at home the tv will always be on and there to entertain me whole day specially if Im at home with no work.
I have realized that its not so good so I try to listen to music instead of watching too much tv.

No you wouldn't want that! LOL. We were having issues with our old tv and so he bought me one for Christmas. I was very disappointed with it because he knows I don't like tv and in reality he was getting it for himself and he just put my name on it. Thanks for the comment.

I went for over 4 years without having cable, and over 2 years of that I didn't have any TV stations at all. I would turn on the TV to watch DVDs or VHS, but that was all. So my TV stayed off most of the time.
