This is rough. My parents dont have AC. Now granted it doesn't get especially HOT here and pretty much no one around here has it, but it is warm and i'm pretty uncomfortable in the house. I am sweating big time! yuck! They have windows open and ceiling fans, but I dont know, it isn't the same. At my home the central AC is set at 72..buurrr. I will probably be cold once I go home. Do you have central AC, wall AC units, or none like my parents?

I have central AC, which is an absolute must in Texas. I wish my husband would agree to letting us keep it at 72. We stay at 76-78. When I was pregnant I put my foot down and said he had no say in the matter. It stayed in the 60s then.

LOL I am pregnant which is part of the problem I think!! I'm like 40 lbs heavier than usual, so it stinks. heheee. We live on base and they currently pay for the electric, so I got spoiled and kept it really low and cool! In 2 years or less they are going to charge us though, if we go over a certain amount of electric in a month. So we'll need to start being more careful, but the AC will still be low

I know what you mean! When I moved from my home state to this state, the home I left did not have AC. However, it was up in the mountains and was very cool, even on the hottest of days. The home I moved to has central air. When I would go back to my home state to visit my parents, they did not have AC and I would feel so very hot! Funny how quickly we get used to AC. Not long after I moved to this state, they followed (yes, I am an only child!) and the home they bought has AC, but they won't use it! I burn up when I go to visit them!

LOL I know! When they come to my house now they are cold. haha. But it's what they used to set their own house at when they had central AC like me! Holy Cow, I dont think i've ever been so hot. hahaha. They are in the mountains too, but I dont know. It feels hot to me inside. Outside is nice, but i'm not sleeping out there..lol

I do not have air conditioning either. It can get pretty hot during the middle of the summer, but it can be a bit expensive. I have not gotten any prices on air conditioners, but ugh - people who do use an air conditioner in one room end up paying heavily for it when they get their electric bill.

If I didn't have an AC I'd get a lot of heat induced headaches. Oklahoma summers are hard especially. I'd end up with a big hospital bill.

LOL-- Being pregnant and hot and sticky- YUK-- We have a/c in our bedrooms- Window units- I prefer not to use ours- I'm hot blooded also- even though I'm not pregnant! But the a/c kills my sinuses- So we use ceiling fans and fans mostly. I sleep with a fan on 365 days a year- Boy it's going to be a long summer for you without a/c- Try to stay cool!

They have no air conditioning?!? Well that must suck. :( I couldn't imagine living here in the Sac area with no AC during the warm/hot weather. Especially once it gets into the 90's and beyond. Unfortunately we only have a couple of window units so we (kids, husband, and I) hibernate into one of the two bedrooms that has it when the weather is too hot.

Central air conditioning and ceiling fans if were not using the central air. I didn't have an air conditioner for a while and i found it hard to sleep and night and was very uncomfortable. I'm so glad we got one! I wish I had some advice to give you but unfortunetly I don't... just drink lots of water and stay hydrated.

I'm about to visit my sister up in Calgary, Canada and they don't have AC in their house either...not really necessary as it's only really hot 2-3 months out the year and cold the rest. I've become so used to it living here in Georgia that I really notice now when it's not there. I imagine I am in for 10 nights of tossing and turning and sweating uncomfortably...worth it though to see my family

I have central air conditioning, but when I would visit my father's mother on occasion, I would just about die. Oklahoma summers are brutal and although she had a window unit in her living room, she would only turn it on from noon to 2pm before shutting it off. I used to live under the one ceiling fan during our stays. She did just fine! : )

I'm in Oklahoma. I hate the summer. I couldn't live without my AC. But I also came from Las Vegas, and the summer time there, is 20 times worse then here.

We have AC but haven't been using it this year. I'm putting it off as long as I can because it really runs up the electric bill. We've had a couple really hot days this week, temperatures in the low nineties, with high humidity. Really yucky. I usually end up going somewhere that has AC, like the mall or a movie or my car. I know it will get just too hot and sticky eventually and I will break down and turn it on. But I'm trying really hard to cut costs this year. I don't set the thermostat as low as 72, and my family complains that it isn't cool enough. But 75 is cooler than it is outside, which is the whole idea. The important part of AC here is the dehumidifying effect. We have really muggly summers and it makes it seem even hotter than it is.

If your parents have forced air heat they can run just the furnace fan without the heat and it helps circulate the air. We also have an attic exhaust fan which I turn on about half an hour before we go to bed to pull the cool air inside at night. We also have ceiling fans. So it is possible to manage without AC. But the humidity kills me.

I bought this place because of all it's heating options etc, there's a ceiling fan in the lounge & in 1 of the bedrooms (that one is kind of pointless!), i have a reverse cycle AC in the dining room which heats & cools the house VERY well, i have a gas heater in the lounge, a combustion heater in the dining room (it's a big one so heats VERY well too when we have wood for it) & then to top it all off, there is a ducted cooling system on the room, with a duct in the kitchen, lounge & just outside the bedrooms! This place stays comfortable all year round! The duct outside the bedrooms needs fixing though coz it doesn't work properly but since the system is cooling only we don't need it right now anyway, we're in the middle of winter here!

Oh, my parents were like yours though for MANY years, i'm 25 now (almost 26) & they have only gotten a reverse cycle AC split system in the last 2 or 3 years. They just didn't see a need to spend a lot of money on cooling with windows & ceiling fans - i don't think the generation of parents worry about things like that!

The house we just sold did not have AC either. We did have a small window unit in the bedrooms for the night time. The house did not have AC in it when we bought it 12 years ago, and we did not have too bad a time without it. But, now that we are in a house that has AC, I don't think I would like to go back to not having it! I am getting spoiled now. We also only had a wood stove to heat with, now this year we have a furnace, and I can't wait to use it!

OMG! How did you do it? I have to have AC. I can't imagine not having it. Kind of scary though, because if something was to happen, I don't know how I would cope. LOL!

No, I do not have air conditioning. I live in central Europe and very few people have air conditioning here. Most people do not have ceiling fans etc. We open the windows. I find the summer quite bearable, I enjoy it. The weather is just nice warm and sunny. I just wondered what Americans would do if they were in the Sahara? They are spoiled in America.

I hate hot weather, not good for sleeping at all. I do have central AC. I keep it at 75-78. My parents has AC, but also uses the fan. If the weather is in the high 80s to 90s then they turn it on. I cannot stand cold weather because you can put on extra layer, but heat no matter how many clothing you remove you are still hot so A/C is essential.

We don't have AC in our building which is going to be pretty bad once Summer kicks in. However, we do have a table fan that is currently sat by the PC desk blasting cool air out lol. I will move the fan to the bedroom in the summer though and probably get one for the rest of the rooms in the apartment too. That way I don't have to keep moving the one fan around all the time. We do have sliding doors in our living room to outside, and our apartment faces North, so we don't get the sun shining in anyway, but it can still get humid in the shade.

We live in a tropical climate so it's very warm here most of the year. 35 deg C most of the time during the day. Humidity makes it even worse. Thankfully, my parents have AC, it's not the central AC type, these are spilt units but they sure are life savers when we need to feel cool! :) Usually we don't turn on the AC before we get home. We prefer to turn it on only when it's needed. This is to save on electricity.

OMG! I could not live without my wall AC units epsecially in the summer time in Jersey...today was sooo hot I didnt even want to step foot out of my house, I heard this whole week is gonna be very hot Uggghhh! I cant stand to be in a hot house just sweating my a** off LOL! I feel like I need to shower many times a day just to feel clean. Its hard when your used to being comfortable then you go to someones house and they dont have any AC in the house..its like WHOA...I wanna go back home to my nice cool house its funny though because it doesnt bother the people who arent use to AC but to us its a killer.

My home has wall AC units but we don't really use them much because we're acclimatized and can take the heat and humidity pretty well. We live on the 15th floor so it gets quite windy sometimes too.

Like your mom we dont have airconditioners in our house. The windows are open and fresh air come and go. We do have electric fans and we used that only during very hot season. Airconditioner is not good for health. Be careful in using it. Have it cleaned once in a while.
