I have been very lucky. I started out selling a few odds and ends and got hooked. I opened a store specializing in baby items (mainly because they are small and easy to store) You just have to find a niche. If you are only doing it for fun and not to make money you might enjoy it more and surprise yourself at how well you do. I also learned through trial and error about listings to have the minimal fees and not to short change myself with postage and paypal fees. It takes time though.

For me it was. I have over 300 items in my store so the listing fees are outrageous even if I only put a dozen on aucution at a time. Not to mention relisting if they don't sell. This way I pay a nominal fee and then .6 to .11 cents (including a picture) per item. It remains in my store until it sells, so after listing I can just pack it away and forget it. I did it both ways and I like this much better. I do put items on auction occasionally, which seems to drive traffic to my store.

I don't have anything to do with Ebay, I order some ink for my printer, shipping and handling
is even expense, then they charge you just for being on ebay. I don't deal with them.
