I have seen quite a few discussions lately, where someone has asked for an opinion, and if they get an answer they dont like the responder is pounced on and accused of Judging. Why is this ? This is wrong. I thought that everyone was entitled to their own opinion weather they agree or not. Why do they get accused of judging. If they dont want answers they dont like why do they ask for opinions in the first place.
This is so nasty and shows peoples real colours.

Calais, a very good point made. I entirely agree with you ...that a host who is asking for anyone's opinion must be well prepared for any kind of comments/replies and should always be polite with the respondents.

We are all entitled to an opinion. If someone feels strongly enough about a post to respond, even if it's in disagreement to the poster, the poster should still be grateful and thankful that that person responded. I posted a discussion not so long ago and the responses that disagreed had me look up some info and I've actually changed my prevoius ideas on the subject. Each of us has different life experiences which we bring to Mylot and each of us is capabable of teaching others just by stating our opinions. To become judgemental or nasty is a sign of ignorance and immaturity.

hi calais,
i have always found ppl getting jittery about some negative comment and anything that is against their views. this is a discussion forum and i feel, we should be lenient to accept boh positive and negative criticisms. once, some user completely blew me off as i expressed my opinion, which perfectly justifiable, but against her. then my friends came to my rescue...lol
many a times, these users go on to rate negative and this is sad. should our star ratings be left at the whims of some users! i wonder.

There is always a problems with this. What is an opinion, as opposed to what is offensive? I always rate opinions that are different to mine as +, and have even been known to choose a Best Response, for an opinion that was different to mine.
But there are people who respond with an opinion that is way off track. That is, they have not read my discussion properly, or if they have, have misunderstood it. I don't see that kind of responses as a different opinion. I tell the responder to read my discussion properly & get his/ her facts straight.
It may be that some people are confusing their different opinion, with misquoting the originator of the discussion.

I avoid stupid questions like the plague... because I know that if I respond... they won't like my answer.
People simply don't like being told that they are stupid. And worse... they don't want to contemplate the possibility that they might be stupid. So they never learn and stay stupid all their life.
I have been trying to give some good advice to some people on this forum about their problems... and when I do... they completely ignore me... and continue to ask new questions about the same problems.
If I was not selective about the questions I choose to answer on myLot... my star rating would be 0 and I probably would have been banned by now.

hi calais nice and interesting discussion there...i kinda agree with you but i think there is always two sides to a situation...firstly i think that every person has right to say what he/she wants to voice on the discussion and there is no question about it...people should be glad enough to accept the responses people have given to their discussion...but the other side to this is that there are lot of people on mylot who just respond without reasoning and give really sarcastic comments on discussions which sometimes are baseless which infuriates the poster...i have to admit it has happened to me and sometimes i have pounded back on people when i disagree with their response which i think is important when responses are baseless although it does not happen everytime...for example right now i am responding to your discussion witha slight disagreement now you may be good enough to ignore this and not pound back at me...bu i would say u have every right to pound back at me by commenting on my discussion and reasoning why i might be wrong....i think it is just action and reaction which is inevitable part of discussions although people do get baseless a number of times here on mylot...but i guess thats just part of it...hope i made a point here...neways take care...bye

Yes I understand what you are saying totally, but it is much simpler than that ,for one instance the poster specifically asked what is your opinion on this , they got an answer and the poster jumped back saying how dare you judge me.....now whats this ????.

There are a lot of people who think that everything is an attack on them. I've known people who claimed they were being attacked over every single post, and its very annoying. I think some people are very judgemental themselves, and therefore assume everyone else is also. There are also some who know they are doing/saying wrong but don't want to admit it. So when someone points out something to that effect they claim they are being judged to take the guilt off of themselves.
