One of the rarest animals in the world, the Siberian tiger is getting a little hope. 84 of them have been born at a breeding center in China. They plan to train some to be introduced back in the wild. The Siberian tiger is one of the world's largest predators and its habitat has been encroached upon by humans severely reducing its numbers. Its good to hear a little good conservation news once in a while.

I have a lot of Lions (because my married last name is Lyon) around the house. But I also have stuffed cheetahs, cougars, leopards, if its a cat I've got it. Plus my two wonderful little house kitties that I adore.

Chinese breeding centres have been quite known for their success lately. I read an article about this Panda breeding centre and it was quite amusing and also a little gross to know the methods they used to get pandas to breed. I'd like to know what exactly they did to the tigers :P

It is quite interesting was is done in for the pandas. I sat through a biology seminar where they told us all about it one time. It was well interesting. Who knows what they are doing for the tigers. But they actually expect more cubs by October!

That is good news. It makes me so sad when humans are unwilling to live peacably with animals. We live in their home and we get upset if they "invade" our space. We seem to think we have the right to just kill them if they are being what they are - wild animals. And the whole idea of killing these beautiful beings just to mount their heads or to have our photo taken with their carcass is disgusting. When we destroy their habitat it upsets the eco balance and we are indirectly destroying our own habitat - earth and its atmosphere. I'm glad some humans are working to restore balance. I wish more of us would.

That is great to hear, I hope they have all the success in the world with re-introducing them to the wild, the tiger is my favorite of all of the big cats. I have always told my family that if I could own one exotic animal, it would be a tiger, they are so beautiful and majestic. I know I will never own one, but just knowing that they will be around for us to be able to look at for years to come is a bright spot for me, now if we can just keep the poachers away, maybe just maybe, they will survive and be here for our children's grandchildren to enjoy as well.

Cheetahs are my favorite. But tigers are beautiful as well. I always like to hear of good conservation methods. I want all the lovely cats to be around for the next generation.
