does every citizen in us have a licensed gun?

When I see/view news I get an impression that every Citizen in US has a licensed gun. Or is the media over-reporting stray shoot-outs by unsound-minded persons?
In our country, India, murders do take place. Few people die at a time. This is because we use knives used for cutting coconuts. Guns are unaffordable.
