losing a pet is a very bad thing, and just like lose a family member, at least for my parents.
when their cat die, they feel so upset, and the more upset things is they could not find the dead body of the cat.
they only heard from someone that the cat was killed by someone on a street, but when they come to that street, they found nothing.
they looking for the dead body of the cat for quite several days, but they didn't find it at last.
then they didn't support another cat till now as they feel too upset.
if your cat die, will you support another one?

Mainly, we've had dogs around our house, but I think the feeling is the same. When you lose your pet you feel very upset and right at that moment do not think any other animal can take your pet's place. We always got another pet and ended up loving them and taking care of them as much as the first pet. I can imagine it's even more upsetting not to know what happened to your pet. How long did your parents have their cat? I think in time they will be ready to have another one.

I am the kind of person that if I dont get another cat I would go nuts. My kats are treated the same as my kids. I give them attention, and love and they give the same back and I would be lost without my furbabies cuddling with me at night.

I can understand their upset. When Gnu disappeared I was pretty down, but he was old & I guess he just went off to die alone.
I, however, have never had just one cat (well, for about 3 weeks when I first moved away from home.) So I guess the answer is yes, I would get another cat, because at the moment I'm up to 26 again!
