one of my friends has been in a long distance realtionship for nearly 5 years. Many people say they will break up because of long distance. From my opinion, they really love each other, even thouth the can't see other for a long time, they still can wait for each other. what do you think ?

Are they from a different culture, where they arrange marriages, and why a relationship for 5 years and still live long distance, were they ever in close proximity to each other, do they ever intend on coming together in the same place? There are just so many questions to give a good answer.

Both of them are chinese. The boy is working in china and the girl is studing in uk. They see each twice a year. the girl tried many times to persuade him to come to uk, the boy doesn't want to give up what he has in china. probably the girl want to go back if she finishs her degree. For them, one person should do some sacrifice

I think this can work, but someone will have to make a choice. That will be the big challenge, but as long as they love and respect each other they will make. Maybe if more people in the US got to know one another before marriage, there may not be so many divorces. Personally i think it's sweet and a romantic thing to do.

This case is very similar as mine. I am also involved in a long distance relationship with a girl for last 4-5 months. We talk with each other on phone and online and share every moment of our life. We are inlove with each other and are still waiting to meet each other. And I hope I will meet her someday and that day will be the biggest day of my life.

I think eventually the proverbial rubber is going to hit the equally proverbial road and someone is going to have to move. Not neccessarily today, or this week, but eventually for the relationship to progress and not get stale, they will have to get together.
I did the long distance thing for about three years, then put my money where my mouth is, packing everything into a Penske truck. We're getting married this year. = )
