Can you SURVIVE without a computer?

Most of my friends may probably notice AGAIN that I was invisible for the last few days. Nothing amiss happened to me except that my computer decided to take a "little vacation" on its own. It was completely shut down since last week.
I tried to hop in to my friend's Internet shop and was seriously in need of clearing up my emails. But the computer at the shop was moving like a turtle. I apologize once again to all my friends who feel that I'm neglecting your discussions. I'm not.
While my computer was still "under construction," I used the time to laze around, read some books, did some beaded jewelry stuff and slept real early.
I know that some of you are using the computer to earn money. What will you do then, if your computer suddenly shut down right before your eyes? Will you be paralyzed, immobilized? Will you pound your head on the computer screen wishing it will come alive once again? Do you think you can survive without a computer? Do share your thoughts.
PS: By the way, I survived, LOL!

Hello baby, it would be very hard.
I have tried it before and life was unbearable. Even with my books around me, life was still unbearable.
I am not fused to my computer but I need it badly. Even if it is to just log in to my email and find that my inbox is empty.
Yes I need my computer very badly.

Sure I can.
Although If I lost access I would miss my online friends and probably find a local cybercafe where I could go to say hello every so often.

At this point I do not have that much income coming in from my computer, other than myLot. I need to get a boost to my caboose, and post to Associated Content, and do some other lucrative stuff. I am trying to be more moderate in my usage, and yes, I would survive without it. I have actually read a book or two lately. My daughter's only income is earned on her computer, so when she has had trouble lately it was more painful than it would be for me. I am sure that getting to sleep real early was a good experience, good for health and for frame of mind. I have a new book checked out, and a stack of magazines I want to read. I think I will let the keyboard rest awhile.

Well I guess I could survive, but I would find it hard these days I think. There are so many things about the computer that I take for granted - especially stuff like Instant Messaging on MSN, emails, and sites like MyLot, where you can have immediate connection to friends whenever you want or need. I would also find it hard to do without it for research purposes - antyhing from checking the latest tennis score, to researching medical stuff, and checking my Bank Account online etc would become much more long-winded and difficult without my trusty PC. So - no - I wouldn't bash my head on the screen - but I probably wouodn't be very happy. Luckily it is unlikely to happen to me to any great extent, as my partner has his own laptop, so there are two computers in this house, plus I have access to the Net from my office computer.

First of all, I thank you charms, for once again popping up a discussion which is very close to my heart. You know, at one point of time, my computer was imply a lazy jerk. Load it with even a moderate number of applications, and it will just crash down. And all this within the warranty period. I used to be infuriated so much that I sometimes really considered throwing it out of the window (regardless of the fate of some passers-by below!). I used to call up the service centre of the reputed computer manufacturing company and all the time they used to argue that there was no problem with my computer. Then one day, the button on the cpu to eject the cd drive broke upon the lightest pressure applied by me. They started to argue that it came under the category of "deliberate mechanical damage" and so wasn't covered by the terms of the warranty. I was simply infuriated with the company. You don't know how frustrated I used to feel. We were definitely cheated. We had just gone to the computer showroom to check out the company's models but the salesgirl there persuaded my dad to sign up a form assuring us that it was not binding and we could change our minds if we wanted to. But the very next day, there was a phone call telling us the delivery date of our new computer and we could do nothing. And mind you, it cost a tidy sum. The purchase of this computer was, is and wwill remain one of the deepest regrets of my life.

Awww abhi, sorry to hear about your computer. :/ You might like to scout for a more friendlier service center. I actually gave up waiting for mine and looked for another one. The new service center promptly dropped by my house and my computer was fixed within the hour.

Well, the warranty period expired just last December. See the big fraud even in that. Whereas all computers have a minimum warranty period of three years, (and for hard disk and some other peripherals, the term may even extend to five), this company gave a warranty period of just ONE year for the WHOLE MACHINE. After the expiry of the period, they were even bold enough to call at my house and ask me "Do you want to renew your warranty?" Just imagine. Most probably they would have taken a hefty sum for that as well. I promptly replied, "No thank you very much!", and disconnected the line.

Hello charms!(",) Welcome back!
Yes, I can live without a computer. People in the past used to live without it so I think I can as well. Though I know it is indeed very helpful to make work easier and faster. Many of us who likes to earn money online need computer.
It's nice that you were able to enjoy your self while your computer has taken some time off. We were able to do the things you used to enjoy before.
Great day and God bless!

I actually had my old PC shut down on me a few months ago. Sure it would come back on, off and on, but as the days went by it grew steadily worse. Eventually it wouldn't come on at all. My husband and I, who were planning to upgrade our PC before this happened, decided to get a new one as it would cost less in the long run. Before we got our new PC we started to go a little crazy from lack of Internet, but there was no head banging. And I'm oh so glad I do not rely on my PC to earn money, or I would have certainly been banging my head on the PC screen. LOL
So I guess you could say I too survived without a computer...though I wouldn't want to do it again! :P LOL

So that's it. I thought you abandon me :P
I work in the IT industry, so I welcome any opportunity for the computer to be down, best if power failure so that I can have a legitimate break. The boss cannot complain I idle. I definitely can survive without a computer for a day or two but not for long. I do not survive on air. I need my bread and mylot buys me the bread daily. Unless you can feed me for life. lol.

I have to survive two weeks without one! I am going to the beach on sunday and staying a week, then going home for a week, then another week at the beach. So the 2 weeks I am gone, I wont have internet, waaaaah. I will have to survive but I wont really like it!! I will probably be more lazy and read more.

yes i can, before we dont have computer at home and we just use if there is a chance to use in the cafe or some place with internet, we just make our way of living by other way not by computer based life. manually like writing letters or by phone, keeping records on books, sending greeting cards by postal and etc. but honest its kinda slow but i think this time stuff like that are sweet to do.

I spend at least 8 hours a day on the computer. I'm addicted...it's true. When i go to stay with my Dad, I read books or go for walks in his huge garden or I take a trek up to the shearing shed. He lives in a valley and the shearing shed is on a hill so the views are especially good. I don't really miss it then. But when I'm home I spend more time doing this and neglecting my chores and hobbies.

if you have asked me some months ago my answer would have been N;) but now i don't know what happened but i don't feel like that much attachment to computer(or internet in particular). maybe the reason behind this is i have many good friends online and a sudden shut down of the computer would have meant a total disconnection from them and leaving them wondering if something bad happened to me especially as they are in other countries.now i have asked them for their phone numbers so when i m facing such a situation i can let them know the reason. other than that i have started again focusing on my old hobbies like reading and painting these days.
though i can survive but it's sure a dull life without a computer;)

Funny that you should ask, charm. I got along very well before I got a computer, and I would continue to do so without one. As you say, many are online to make money, for me it's just a pasttime. In fact, I've seriously been considering giving it all up because it is taking so much of my time. Before I got into computers, I was into doing a variety of things like artwork, writing, heavy reading. I have begun to miss all the things I used to do all of the time. So, yes, I could survive without my computer.

i know what it's like when my laptop is not working, i've experienced that a few times. feel like throwing it to the floor and smash it into pieces and scream! lol. if i can't use the computer, i'd be so bored. i'd probably watch tv, read books, clean my room, do some gardening, sleep or go out..i hope my computer will never die on me ever again haha...

Well computer for me is important during my office hours because i have my daily job that need to input in the computer, i'll maybe very upset when my computer shut down during the my rush hour, but if im home and nothing to do with the computer its okay for me at least i have a time to play with my son.

You've been spending quite a lot of time in front of the computer during your working hours. You might as well use your other times to spend with your son. I'm staying at home most of the time and the computer are just my way of passing up my boredom.
