My wittle sweet cheeks Alexi is sucking on her fist and her fingers which causes her to drool a lot more. She's only two months old. She can't possibly be teething already can she? She doesn't like pacifiers either. She spits them out.

My daughter started sucking on her fingers and drooling so much when she was 2 1/2 months old. She would soak bibs in 2 hours. It was ridiculous. Her 2 bottom teeth broke thru 2 weeks ago. She just turned 8 months on Sunday. As soon as the teeth started poking thru the gums, she stopped drooling, but now she's started a little again, as she's got a tooth coming in on top. She probably won't really start teething until she's 5 to 6 months or so. One way to check is to put your finger in her mouth. If she lets you do it with no problem, she's not teething. If she clamps her mouth shut, then it's started and get your orajel and tylenol ready.

My little 3 month old daughter sucks on her thumb too. I think she does it mostly to comfort herself. She does it mostly when it is nap time or bed time. I check on her at night and catch her doing it then too but I reckon she is trying to get herself back to sleep. It is great when they can find a way to comfort themself, which may be what your daughter is trying to do.

My son was the same way. At about two months he was drooling so much I thought he was teething and I was asking all my mom friends what they thought. They all told me not to worry that he probably wasn't teething. He hates pacifiers and so he sucks his thumb. It is just that while sucking on his thumb, he drooled a lot more than he would sucking a pacifier. Don't worry, soon you'll catch her sucking her thumb and you'll have to take a picture because it is the cutest thing you have ever seen (just like everything else she does!!)

My daughter started sucking and chewing her hands at about 2 months as well, and I thought she was teething then. And now at 7 months she is still chewing and sucking anything she can get her hands on, with not one tooth in sight. I think that at around 2 months or so is when babies really start waking up and noticeing their surroundings, so sucking and chewing on hands are just their way of realizing that they have hands and doing something with them.
