How good are your writing skills?

Have you ever posted a topic or a reply only to get a negative comment back that wasn't what you intended? Is it because you can't seem to get across your sense of humor, maybe you're too tired and shouldn't be blogging or you hit the submit button without rereading it to make sure it was how you meant it? I know I've been guilty of this and for anyone I've offended with my poor writing skills "I apologize". Am I the only one who writes so poorly?

The biggest faults in my writing (especially on this forum) is not proof reading my posts and checking my spelling before I hit the "post response" button.
Most of the negative comments that I get back have nothing to do with my writing but rather because the person who is replying did not take the time to read the entire post.
Like they will read just the topic, or the first two sentances and go off on a rant because they didn't read the rest of my post to see what the topic is really about, or what my feelings on it are.
For shame slackers, for shame.

I too have found misspellings after submitting, had someone not read my entire reply or taken something I did write out of context completely. Yes, it could be the reader's intepretation but somehow I think it's a shared responsibility. It's easier to misinterpret writing than having a face to face conversation, you don't hear tone or inflection, see facial expressions. People who know me and my humor could read it but those who don't know me and only have my writing to go on could easily misinterpret it.

You bring up a very good point about not being able to "hear" the tone of the post. It's all too easy for someone to color writing a certain way based on their current mood or a something that is written.
Sarcasm often doesn't play well when writen, it can often sound negative or worse. Great point.

Somewhat poor, yes.
I'm into writing poetry and it's the thing which holds me back, seems I can make visions with my writing and yet I can't stick to using grammar.
Spelling also used to be an issue although that's a thing of the past.
Hopefully sooner rather later the grammar issues will be too. (working on fixing it) Kudos!

Oh yes, it happened before... sometimes people misunderstand what you write because they chose to read it that way.
Charlene pointed out smileys.. but sometimes, even they don't help. Unfortunately. :(
I think my writing is fine. Passingly okay. :P

I can't say I think any different of someone who writes poorly from someone who is exceptional. As long as I can get the general idea of what is being said, that is what I am looking at. I will say that I have had some replies that show I was misunderstood, such as putting in humour without adding 'lol' or something, as I can be typing something with a smile on my face, thinking it's funny and finding it doesn't always come across as such.
