You choose to have a cat because you are lazy?

Someone today told this to me: a person who has a dog is really a responsible one because you have to sacrifice more of your free time in order to go with him for one or more strolls in the day, you have to take with you a shopper where to collect his stools, you have to care to let him run in a dedicated playground of the public gardens... and so on. Whereas a cat is just an individual who shares your habitat and who comes with you when he needs you... I don't think so. First: there are irresponsible dog owners and there are very responsible cat owners. Second: a cat, even if you leave him alone is able to survive and to integrate in some way in the community, while dogs are more depending and even when they are cared of, can be dangerous expecially for children -and notice that I really LOVE dogs-; Third: if you love a pet, any kind of pet: hamsters, pitons, also insects, you naturally take care of him and you do not want him to suffer for your negligence; Fourth: on the other side, I think that if you love a pet, he himself feels protected and knows he has got a friend, so that there is no problem to communicate any need, in a process of empathy, so that even if some day you don't want to go to the bigger garden, your friend just appreciates a small stroll just at the corner of the street, exactly as it is for humans: when you share a feeling there is no need of words. Last: once I knew a person who had saved a medium sized dog who had been left on the highway and had adopted him. She studied as doctor so she had no time in the day to share with this dog and she lived alone, but she always took care of him every single day of the week and they were happy together. Enjoy and love your pet friend, no distinction, they are as the Great Italian poet Umberto Saba said: "tutti i sereni animali che avvicinano a Dio" all the serene animals pushing us nearer to God's Love

Well that was a silly comment they made. I am guessing they have never had a demanding cat*L* My dogs love just when I talk to them. My cat demands me to pet her on her terms. I have to make sure her food is in a certain place or she won't eat. Her litter box has to be just so or she throws a fit. Dogs will go anywhere and eat anthing. I love all my animals but I wouldn't say someone that has just a cat is lazy. That is just silly.

Thank you, I love cats, whatever they can do they are the most intelligent and sensible animal a person can desire, sometimes they are also pretentious, but it is their way to tell you they like to live with you. bye.

I've seen a lot of dogs on the scooter, I mean with their owners... Once I also saw at the seaside a beagle who was happily sat in the rear seat of a two places kayak with is owner and they were going really offshore. bye

Well Im not sure about that but I can see where people get that. With a dog you have to constantly walk them and play with them and they bark and take off but with a cat you feed it and change its litter and thats about it. I dont know if cat people are lazy because cats can be pretty demanding to but Id have to say a dog is definitly more work to have.

Well, we chose a cat because I'm allergic to dogs! Does that make me exempt to that person's reasoning??? LOL

I dont think cat owners are Lazy at all. Honestly the pet you have dosnt make you lazy or active. It is a personal preferance. Also some people are allergic to dogs so they get cats for that reason. There are many diffrent reasons. They are individual to everyone.

I have never heard of anything so ludarist in my life. LOL How could someone be that narrow minded. There is no 'your pet is better than mine' police patrol out there and there is no committee that votes on which is the better animal to rear and the pet you choose to maintain is not suppose to be a means to jusde others (the humans). I sure did laugh when I read what someone told you though.

Oh how riduculous is that? I have had dogs in the past and yes they are some work but its all worth it. Right now I have 2 cats and they just as much work. Because I have them spoiled rotten.LOL I always give my pets lots of love. And everyone else should too. I do agree with you all the way. Take care

I think that to care for a dog or a cat well requires effort, time, love and commitment. There can be little doubt that bigger dogs need more exercise, actually a great deal of exercise so therefor more time and effort. But even to adequately care for a cat requires you not to be lazy. People who have animals and neglect them or worse are cruel to them do a terrible thing, your quote "tutti i sereni animali che avvicinano a Dio" all the serene animals pushing us nearer to God's Love" is beautiful and very true. Pets never fail to enhance a responsible pet owners life, I know my cats have in mine. People who don't own or appreciate animals can't understand when I rave about my pets, but I know they are brilliant and give so much more than they get. If everyone owned a pet and loved it, cared for it etc the world would be a much better place.

I have seven cats and it is no cup of tea cleaning litter boxes and hair off of everything. But I would not have it any other way I love each one of them like they were my kids. They bring so much joy to me and my husband.

Whoever told you that obviously doesn't have my cat. He gets into so much stuff that I find myself cleaning up after him almost as much as my kids. He also likes to go outside with us and I often have to chase him around to get him back in. He's messy, moody and mischievous and I wouldn't trade him in for any dog in the world.

You're amazing, opinione! I agree to what you said. I have cats because they're quiet, beautiful and clean. Dogs are too noisy for me to handle, I don't dislike dogs, I just think they're noisy.

I don't think so. First,if a person is lazy,he/she shount not raise any pet, such as dog or cat and so on. second, if a perple want to have a cat, he/she must be responsible,otherwise,he/she shound send the pet to a hearted and responsible person.

LOL thats just ridiculous!! I would have loved to have had dogs a few yrs back BUT I lived in places where it wouldnt have been fair to the dog..I worked hours that wouldnt have been fair to the dog..so I had cats instead..... I love my dogs and my cats very much (2 dogs and 4 cats) but to assume that a dog owner has to put more into keeping a dog is silly..I've NEVER had to take my dogs for walks (I have just for fun on occasion but not out of necessity)...My dogs have a good acre to run free on so walks arent necessary...My cats can keep me just as busy as my dogs do too so um ya, whoever said that to you isnt the quickest bunny in the woods to say the least :-/

you know I have someone said that to me, that cats are stupid. He never has a cat before so how does he know cats are stupid? I told him that dogs need to be trained, so what makes him think cats are so stupid they can't be trained? This person works in an office and one day he told me to copy something instead of scanning it. I scanned them anyway, and he said I always talk back at him. Isn't it better to scan since you have the image stored and can send as attachment or print them, rather than just copy and distribute manually? I don't think stupid person can say a cat is stupid. Sorry this is a long response I just need to vent while I'm at it.

I think all pets need the same amount of love and responsibility. Even goldfish need their tanks changed every week and you have to make sure they like their water plants AND the arrangement of the plants, and when they fall sick you have to quarantine them and give them the right medicines or else they will die. I would prefer to have a cat over a dog because dogs are noisier than cats, though I wouldn't mind a dog either because dogs are great companions and can warn me of danger by barking. Cats are nicer to just sit there and cuddle, but I doubt they'd be able to do much to protect me.
