Can you exercise/work out without music?

I'm sure we all do a little bit of exercising or working out, whether at home or the gym. It's a good thing.. I used to be into yoga before, and now I do a lot of cardio, but I couldn't do either without listening to my favorite songs on my mp3 player. I guess without music, I wouldn't be able to exercise and it would seem like too much of a chore. But with my favorites, it becomes fun and exciting. That's why in gyms, music is usually almost always playing. I mean, just working out to music that is loud and rocking, and that is just right, for the situation, can make work outs really fun and really put you in the mood. So do you agree that music is important for exercising? And if not, then can you work out without music?

I think music makes exercising more interesting because it has a beat and it's better than listening to the air-con or nothing at all. My earphones keep falling out of my ears so I've learnt to exercise without music.

You should get one of those earphones that go directly right into the ear, they're much more comfortable than the regular earphones, even the ones with softies, the ones I'm talking about and the ones I have are these soft plastic ones that are small enough to go right in the ear hole. They don't come out even when I'm running and are so comfortable.

Well, I'm not filthy rich either, ha ha, I got mine from radioshack the cheapest ones there. They cost less than 9$ so it was pretty good.

Exercise is a matter of discipline. While music does help during workouts, we can do without it if we really are serious about getting physically fit. There are other forms of exercise that do not really require music like weight lifting, treadmill, etc.

I care about being healthy and physically fit, but that doesn't mean I have to do like a chore with "discipline", I would rather also enjoy myself with my favorite tunes, and I run so I'm sure even on a treadmill it's really important, it just works for me..

Hello vega. I don't have much time exercising nor working out. The only work out I have is to tend to my household chores everyday. It gave me a good sweat too. I normally tuned in to my favorite music while at home doing all the dreaded chores. But I agree that music can somehow lighten our mood and ease the tension out of our bodily system. Listening to music has this powerful effect on each one of us.

Well, that's your workout then, and I know those chores are hard, I really run from them, but when I do have to do chores, I prefer music too, it just makes them less tedious and more fun.

Sure I can. I can work out with or without music. After all, if and when I go for my run, it would not be too convenient bringing music with me. The more important key is whether we would exercise.

Yeah, I do a little bit of yoga too. I think breathing exercises are really important, of course concentration is a must for them, so music won't be appropriate, but I do a lot of cardio too, for which music is so important.

Yeah, the music kinda sets the mood and the beat, and the louder and faster the music, the more pumped up you feel. And without music, I find myself very much aware of the time and the effort I'm putting in, but with music, I don't notice all that, so technically I can work out longer if there's music in my ears.

No, sorry. I find music too distracting for me during workouts. I like to concentrate on myself as I do it. Yes, I am aware that just sounded really strange, lol. However house work, it's a must!

I go for my regular jogs everyday during the dusk and i dont carry my portable player with me.It actually diverts my attention while i jog.So i'd rather run without the music. And while working out at home,i do few exercises to stretch my muscles.I dont use music for this too.Stretching of the muscles requires you to take your own time and following a pace could definitely do you damage with your muscles. As for cardio and aerobics, they do need music cuz you follow a rhythm while doing it. So no,i dont use music music while I work out cuz my work out process does not require them.

I don't know, still like to have fun. If there's no music, it will seem like such a chore, and if it's anything remotely resembling a chore then I get so bored of it, and pretty much stop working out all together. I just need that musical motivation.

Well I get too bored if there's nothing to distract me, with music I tend to work out more because I'm having more fun and I'm not looking at the time.

I need silence when I do my work out. However I like if music is played in the gym, especially when I am doing my cardio vasculars.

Yeah, cardio vasculars need music, when I used to do yoga I never listened to music, but I guess that's why I lost interest in it. I need something to keep me going.

Short answer - Yes, of course i can exercise without music, but i find that music tends to make you exercise a whole lot more! (Ok, so maybe that wasn't such a short answer after all!)

no i cannot. usually if i exercises in the long run.say 1 hour or 2 hours i need music to make me more relax and divert my attention from the painstaking exercise i am undergoing. yes it really works whe nyou try to exercise hard together with music.

Good news that I find another girl who are similar to me in using music to work out.I enjoy music,I need it very much when i feel bad,I sing some resouding songs loudly or the lively and quick rhythm ones. While singing, the bad moods become gone slowly.

Yeah, music is magical in that way, it can really be a catalyst to our moods, that's why they call it universal, I guess.

Hi. Actually I like to workout to metal or fast up beat music, I have worked out to no music at all, and found it a drag... So you can work out without music, its just a little boring, these are my personal views...
