How Long did your computer last before you had to replace it

Okay I'll probably get someone here who will say, "I had my Windows 95 since it was first invented and it is still working", but I am talking about those who got a Windows 95, 98, Me, or a Mac, who broke down so you had to get a new one, when it was no use to replace parts. It was dead as a doornail, finished. Mine lasted over six years. It started as a Windows 98 and went to that horrible Windows Me and ended up as Windows XP. So how long did your computer last before having to replace it? thanks.

First computer was purchased when windows 95 was first put on the market and yes you're so right it went forever and I'd no doubt still be using it but it was downstairs and my husband wanted to paint the walls down there so the night before he put everything off the desk , shelves and work benches to the middle of the floor. Well during the night and next morning we had a flood, almost everyone here had the same thing, sewer backup, our town was classed as a disaster and insurance covered some items. I now have a laptop with windowsXP and I'm loving it. I've had it since 2005.

it ttaly depends for what u use yourpc if u use for going throught web and staff a computer will last for quite a lot but if u have a computer for games (like me :p)it wont last that much , i have this pc for like 4 and a half years and some games dont run on it anymore, so i am buying a wii insteadof upgrading or buying a new one

I do a lot of surfing and I write. I'm not into games that much except for solitaire and I guess you cannot play that with anyone anyway.

I started with DOS PC. It was not a very user friendly computer as I had to remember and type in line commands.
I had also used a Windows 95 PC and it got infected with virus through a friend's diskette. I bought a Windows ME laptop 6 years ago and it still works ok except that its screen starts to flicker occasionally.
I am now using the Windows XP laptop. It is about 3 years old. Occasionally, I am unable to switch this laptop on due to the faulty motherboard.
It is quite frustrating when I need to use the computer and it refused to boot up. So recently, I bought a new Windows Vista Notebook PC.

I wouldn't mind a laptop since I can work on it any place instead of at home.

My old one had so many different graphic cards in it, a new Ergonomic keyboard, but this one has the ordinary keyboard that I don't like.

I really should have looked for my new computer before mine ran out. I had a little money saved up. Yes if I had had enough I would have gotten a Mac, but then again I wish it had lasted 7 years which would have been around January when the new Two Duo Cores came out.

I figure that the average time for a computer must be between five to seven years, the latter for those who hardly use theirs.

I remember when we had the TRs 80 from Radio Shack and we had to type in all the programs. My sister-in-law had one of those Windows 311 and we went through that. We got our first real computer from Dell and had to buy a new one when the Windows 95 came out.
