By PETER SVENSSONNEW YORK (AP) - Without any sort of fanfare, AT&T Inc. (ATT) has started offering a broadband Internet service for $10 a month, cheaper than any advertised plan.
This is good news to some future customers I feel. To see more details read this part carefully. "The plan was not mentioned in a Friday news release about AT&T's DSL plans, and is slightly hidden on the AT&T Web site. A page describing DSL options doesn't mention it, but clicking a link for "Term contract plans" reveals it. It's also presented to customers who go into the application process, Coe said." As I dont make calls from the internet this may work for me as I use AOL dial-up now. I am going to check into this myself in the near future and hope it's avaiable in my area. (Minnesota)

Well now that bites the big one. I just signed up for AT&T yahoo dsl not too long ago and never seen that offer anywhere on their website. I'm paying $14.99 a month for it. Tell ya one thing with dial-up, it's extremely easy to sign up for it but when time to cancel, takes forever on the phone. AOL and Peoplepc were both very bad at trying to get me to stay with them. Finally flew off the handle at Peoplepc a couple days ago and told them I'll never ever go with them again if I need to go back to dial-up and will not refer other ppl to them either and slammed the phone down on them.

Wow, I'm going to check that as well although I am sure it isn't available on base (the only thing available on base right now is the cable internet or dial up, no one offers DSL yet). But I am going to FWD the link to my dad. Maybe he can use it! That would save big money!! awesome, thanks for sharing.

OMG, dialup, grandpa Bob, you poor thing! I've been cable broadband for almost 4 years now, I would just DIE with dialup!
BTW, AOL is Big Brother, y'know. It's just still in the toddler stage, and Orwell didn't understand the user-friendly, publicly appealing shell that BB would wear in the early years, so it could suck in millions upon millions of unaware users! Think I'm crazy? Why have they begun to give away what they've made billions of dollars on at $22.95 per month?
Anyway, I saw this article the other day and was quite curious. I'm still paying $30 per month for my broadband, and my fixed income would dearly love to cut that bill by two-thirds! Let me know how you make out, if you try it!

Wow, much cheaper than here in the Philippines. Hope companies will realized here the lowering of price for DSL so everyone can afford and can sign-up myLot.

Once in a while AT & T will run specials where the price will be an average of $10 a month. I had a chance to get a month free, for example, and that would make my yearly bill lower than the $14.99 I pay now. I didn't take it because I didn't know if I would want to stay with DSL or that I might want to upgrade. Well, I love upgrading my DSL and wouldn't change back unless I was absolutely having a hard time paying the extra $5 (and change for taxes) from dial-up.

I'm going to have to seriously think about getting this. Does DSL work with a phone line at all? I don't want to get rid of the phone and I hate to have to buy some box/modem. But I know I will. Fill me in some on this? Hahahaha!!

If you have AT&T, Grandpa Bob, then DSL will definately run thru your phone line and if your lucky with the specials, you pay for the modem but get a rebate included with it to get the full amount back for it. I would also recommend you check the self-install option cause it's fairly easy to install it yourself. You do have to have a computer with ethernet capabilites thou so would want to check and make sure yours does b4 even thinking of switching to DSL. They are also great on calling me when my signal isn't strong. That happened last week and thought it was my computer being a lazy butt but then my home phone rang and I'm thinking, who the heck is calling me when noone has my home number. It was AT&T tech support calling me about the weak signal and he troubleshooted it over the phone with me. I was shocked as that never happened b4 with any service I've ever had.

I think they may be rewarding loyal customers this way as well.I noticed that this month our total package plan had dropped about twelve dollars, and I did not know why. That seems to clear that up. LOL. Isn't it something, the price of something went down.

It sounds like it's for new customers only. What a bummer! I am going through AT&T for my DSL and I am paying $49.95 a month for it! But I refuse to give it up, so I must suffer through paying the lovely bill every month. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll reduce my cost every month. I'm keeping my fingers crossed (when I'm not typing that is. LOL).

I hope it is available in your area too for your sake Grandpa Bob. If not check out other high speed connections that are cheap by googling the words. Have you ever heard of RoadRunner? That is what we have here it may be available in your area.
Though I do not have it I now many people that do. I deal with frontier through my phone company.
That's one other option you could try is getting a package from a phone company that includes free long distance and high speed connection.
Also where my son lives in CT they have a tri planphone cable and high speed for like 100 bucks a month. I hope you are able to get your high speed connections soon. good luck!

Grandpa Bob I get AT&T DSL for 14.99 a month and have been for years. I just have to reactivate everyyear or the price will go up. I do not understand what you mean by making calls does that mean you cannot use the like for phone calls also?

Some people have I think its called VONAGE. Its a service where phone calls are placed through the internet not phone lines. So with AT&T DSL do you have to also get an ISP or is the ISP AT&T? And is it always logged on to the ISP?
