The year is not even half over and already there have been 24 recalls of toys - ALL of them "Made in China". No other country's toys have needed to be recalled, so far this year. You may have heard of the recent recall of the "Thomas and Friends" trains last week. Lead paint was used on this entire line of toys. Did you hear about the toy bear or toy drums that were also recalled for lead paint? How about the infant rattle that was a choking hazard? Or maybe the "fake eyeball" toy that was filled with KEROSENE? China makes 70% - 80% of the toys sold in the US. They do not care about safety in food items; and, they do not care about safety in children's toys. When recalls happen; merchandise is "supposed" to be pulled from the shelves. But, that does nothing for the parent or grandparent who bought a toy BEFORE the recall occurred. Here is a link to a site called "imperfect parent" and their product recall page - http://www.imperfectparent.com/product_recalls/ And, a link to the recalls section of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission - http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prerel.html These would be good sites to make "favorites" so you can keep up with what is being recalled and why.

It seems as if the Chineese just don't care about the safety of the consumer when they manufacture their products. The problem with lead paint in their products has been around for years. For some reason they think they can stil use it and sneek it into our country without us noticing it. Someone in this Administration needs to call the Chineese to the table and read the riot act to them. Until then, it will be business as usual. Lloyd

Like a lot of our own businesses; the Chinese business owner has a lot of competition and tries to cut costs anyway they can. Unlike the US, where a business would face serious penalties over an incident like these; regulation in China is so lax that it is very rare for these businesses to be caught and penalized. So, they just keep on doing it. The companies that actually import these items and have to recall them are the ones who get left "holding the bag" and losing money from these recalls. You would think, these companies would insist on a sample and test it before they buy the whole lot and get stuck with hazardous items that are worthless.

I think the companies here in America that do business with the Chineese just view the recalls as the cost of doing business with them. By the time the product is recalled they have already made millions of dollars. Thanks for the best reply. My post was truly how I feel about our business relationship with the Chineese and their Communist Government. Lloyd
