Being Christian

Why is it that some people think that being Christian gives them the right to rule other people's lives? The Bible distinctly says not to judge others but then you see people that say, "Since I am a Christian, I am against this and against that." I am a Christian. But I am also open minded. I read my Bible on a regular basis and I have yet to find some of the things that are spouted by these "Good Christians." Am I reading it wrong?

Why is it okay for New Agers and Humanists to rule us Christian's lives? Why should I be for sleeping with a guy before I am married to see if it works? Why should I be for killing an unborn baby because there are either too many people in the world or I have to get on with my career? Why should I be for embryo research because a member of my family has either Parkinsons or MS? The list can go on and on. The rule is to judge others better than yourself is never quoted only the one that says judge not that ye be not judged. There is also a quotation from the Bible to judge righteous judgment. You are reading your Bible wrong because God has not opened your heart. Oh and do you really think that all the sins in the world that Christians are against do not affect you? Every time you pay taxes, when the taxes go up you are not only paying for roads and bridges. You are also paying for the unwed mother who did not say no, for the children of a single mother whose father ran off with another woman who could support him in the style he wanted to be in, for the research scientist who keeps on killing unborn babies when there are adult stem cells who are better suited. Yes you pay for these through your pocket book. Oh and abortion. My husband was able to retire early? How long wlll you have to work? To your eighties?

You don't have to be for any of the things you mentioned. That is your choice and I respect that choice. And God has opened my heart. It is comments like that I was referring to in the first place. How do you know what God has or has not done in my life?

Suspenseful - You have your choices just as we have ours and no one is disputing that. Let me tell you a couple of things about ldybgsgma - She was left a widow at age 19 with a 13 month old daughter - why - because a man driving a 2 ton truck failed to look and pulled out in front of her husband on his motorcycle. She helped nurse her father for almost 3 years and watched him go from a vibrant 178lb man to a 75 pound shell from the ravages of cancer - she has a sister who was diagnosed with MS 4 years ago - that sister is an open heart surgical nurse - works everyday and never complains about her illness. She has not lost her faith in God through these trials in her life. It is people that spout your type of logic that send others running out of the church door. So your husband retired early - well ldybgsgmas husband didn't live long enough to retire and as for her - she went on and finished her nurses training which was brought to an early stop when someone driving at over 90 mph rearended her - did damage to her neck and the nerves in her arms and the Doctors recommended that she give up nursing so she went back to school and has degrees in business and accounting and no she won't be working until her 80's. I did note though that no where in your sermon did you say what you did for a living. Get off your soap box until you know what you are talking about. How do I know so much about ldybgsgma - she is my daughter and I love her unconditionally.

No, I think you are completely right. Just because these people claim to be Christians that doesn't neccessarily mean that they aren't HYPOCRITS, which a lot of people sadly are. The bible also says that God created us as sinners, does that mean that they are the sole exception to this... meaning that they have never done anything wrong or that they are the only ones that know how to ask for forgiveness? I think a lot of people just don't take the time to sit back and reflect on the way they behave or the things they say. I believe a Christian OUGHT to know the bible in their heart, for what it means to THEMSELVES and not get so caught up in everyone else, because it's not their place to do so.

I don't think that saying you do something because you are a Christian means you are judging others. Its just why that person does a certain thing in particular. We aren't to judge but I don't think it is wrong to point out when someone is doing something that is obviously wrong....Just my opinion :)

i am a christain and yes you are right it does say "judge not unless you be judged but the same judge." and yes some people take being christains to for but tring to tell everyone else how to live but not all are like that. if a person is for or against something they have a God given right to their beleifs or way of life but they shouldnt try to make everyone else look bad or feel bad. all will be judged by the same judge in the end and then we will see who is right and who is wrong. and we will proble find out that most of them people who think they are sants sin just as much if not more than the rest of us.

True Christians should be against things that are wrong. We should be open to what God says and strive to live for Him. We should love others as Christ has loved us.
God hates sin, but loves the sinner. He gave His Son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place so that we may be forgiven of our sins and live with Him forever in Heaven. Christ is the only way to Eternal Life.
True Christians should be humble, loving, unselfish, forgiving, kind, compassionate, hate what is wrong, love what is right, spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, pray for others...live for Christ.
God bless.

I too am a Christian but I am open minded. You're not reading it wrong at all. There is nothing wrong with being open minded as I am. I think being closed minded doesn't help matters as well.
If it doesn't say it, then I don't see a problem with it. I haven't found it either.

Thank you for your response and for being open minded. There are way too many closed minded people in this world.

Bravo to you for not being afraid to have an openmind AND being devoted to your faith/religion..I think it is so sad that so many Christians are closed minded BECAUSE of their faith/religion...I personally think those are the ones who have it all wrong...THEY are the ones who are reading the bible wrong not you....and I also truly believe that if there is a god/heaven/hell etc etc its ppl like that who are in for a big shocker ;-)

From what you stated above, I don't see have saying that would make them be judgemental. To say that you are against something is simply stating how you feel.
I am against war, but that does not mean that I am judging people who are for it. This is a personal choice and has nothing to do with anyone else.

I'm a christian and i struggle with the same thing as you do.You're not reading it wrong, but they are.If they think they are superior i would really think they are being fools, and i know that it's not God's meaning that humans have to judge others or feel superior above others.S don't you worry about being wrong they are, they don't know it yet, because they stick to their own terms of living.Like you said you're an openbook and they are closed.
