As parents of two children, we have alot to do with our childrens teachers and the school they go to. We make the effort to go to all our childrens parent-teacher meetings, because we like to know what kind of teachers are teaching our children and what level of learning they are at... So what about you folks on mylot? Do you make the effort to know your childs teachers and the school they attend?...

Yes, I always do. It's always good to get to know them a bit. I am having trouble with one of my sons teachers at the moment because if a couple of kids do something wrong she punishes the whole class. I went in and saw her the other day about it and she won't answer my questions properly, my husband went to see her this morning and she was away sick. I am just getting so frustrated with her.

I actually went to the principal first and he said to maybe go and speak to her next time. He told her how I felt anyway, so I thought I would leave it and see how it went. She still kept doing it so that's why I went and saw her myself. I got nowhere with her. My husband spoke to the principal this morning because she wasn't there and he is going to have a meeting next week with her and the principal. I hope it will all get sorted out and she will start being fair on the good kids and only punish the kids that are doing something wrong.

Hi there, Ghee this teacher sounds like shes dodging her responsibility to communicate with parents. You may get a better response if you by pass the teacher and go straight to the principal, that way, at least the principal will be aware of it too... Good luck to you with this... and thanks for the comment

it is unethical for teachers to punish the whole class for the fault of one student. it is written in a lot of classroom management books! I think you should report this person to higher authorities.

We never went to PTA meetings, and never investigated the teachers at the school our boys attended. When we first moved into Saskatoon and before we adopted our sons, we looked for an area with a good school, just in case. So it was a simple measure of registering them when they were six years old. When we later moved to Winnipeg, we checked the schools, but found none in our area that were good enough. They were able to attend a public school that was recommended as being better than the local one, and had excellent teachers and staff.

Hey. Well at least you took precautions and bothered to check the schools out before actually enrolling your boys... Some parents I know, dont bother at all and then they complain about there children going down hill with there education or hanging out with the wrong bunch of kids... Thanks for you comment...

as a teacher i think parents has the right to get to know us, specially when they are going to leave their kids with me for a very longe period of time.

I make it a point to attend the parent teacher meet which is held 4 times in a year. That way i come to know about my child's progress and also i get to know in which subject he is lagging behind. Besides that my wife makes it a point to meet my child's teacher once a month to know his progress in school

Hi Bob. Im glad you do make the effort to get involved and find out what they are strong at and what their weaknesses are as well, so you can better and help them to get ahead... Some parents cant be bothered, they just send the child to school and have no interest in what they're doing, which is sad... Fantastic! Thanks for your comment...

I've always made it a point to know my kids teachers - afraid my youngest son didn't like it though. Often teachers would call me at home and for 3 years I worked at the schools so knew all of the teachers. It was fun remembering which teacher had which kid in their class - all 4 of my kids had the same kindergarden teacher - she retired when I brought my first grandson to visit. I tease her saying she'd had enough of my kids and wasn't doing grandkids.

Hi. Funny how you teased your kids kindy teacher, with saying she'd had enough of your kids and wasn't doing grandkids lol. Just goes to show the close relations between the lady that took the time to teach your children and many more and you as a parent... Great stuff... And have a neat day...
