Our cat keeps wetting the bed

My family and I bought a kitten in December. He's been a great cat and we love him to death, but we recently moved and he seems to be taking it badly. He started by spraying around our new home, so we immediately got him fixed. Now he seems to be urination on himself while he sleeps. Everytime he gets up from sleeping somewhere the area around him is wet and smells of cat urine. Has anyone else had this problem? We have taken to keeping him off of all our furniture and putting him outdoors at night and when we leave the house. I am constantly having to scrub the smell out of things and am desperate to break him of the situation. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do?

This may sound silly, but have you tried putting him in the litter box when he starts to look sleepy. Maybe he just doesn't know exactly when he has to go and you need to get him in the habit of going right before he falls asleep.

I haven't tried that yet, but I guess it can't hurt to give it a shot. I'm willing to try anything at this point. Thanks for the suggestion.

This is a tough one. I have seven cats there are so many reasons they do this. I am sure the move is one of them . I have a male that use to do this but he stopped after he was fixed. I have one female that will do this on our bed quite often. It is always when she is mad about something. I have heard of putting them on antidepressants. This is supposed to work I have not tried it myself. It may be that there were cats in the house before and it is picking up a scent that you cannot smell but they can. I hope you can solve your problem and good luck to you.

Thank you very much for the response. Having seven kids I think I would consider you an expert:) I will look into all of the things you suggested and talk to my vet about them. Hopefully it is just a phase that he will outgrow as he gets older, afterall he is still a kitten.

A lot of times Cats have a problem with urination due to kidney infections. Some clay type liter will have dust that actually gets inside the urinary tract and causes problems. I think I would take the kitten to the vet and have him checked out, its not normal for them to potty on themselves like that... Good luck with it.

I never knew that about the cat litter. He has been to the vet and they've done x-rays and blood work on him and have not found any problems. I am completely at a loss as to why he is doing it and how to stop it. I will try changing the cat litter though to see how that works. Thanks for the response.
