When you pick up a wallet on the road ,Give it back to the owner or not?

hehe....maybe it is a personal question,I think most people would give it back to the owner, because they can understand the owner of lost property's feeling.he must have his heart in his mouth.maybe the money is very important to him. But few of people will not give it back to owner, they may use it to buy something or have a good meal..I think these men have no moral. We can not blame those who not give the wallet back to owner,it is their persional choice..But I hope they will never do that again. What will you do when you pick up a wallet on the road or ther public places.

Honestly of course I will find the owner of the wallet I know the one who have lost their personal belongings really needs the most important thing they have left like ID's, driver's licence, and some important documents. and maybe if they wish to find them even money they will give just to give them back the most important things.

It depends, if I am able to find the contacts of the owner in the purse, I will return or else I will keep it with me.

Technology - the search engine, online directory or media information. A great tool to help trace the owner of the lost wallet can be found and informed.

Wallet - Where you can keep all your money and every important cards that you have to bring all the time.
I would probably return it to the owner. If I lost something too, I will be glad if the finder will bring it back to me.

Very good question. Honestly, I will try to find the owner of it and give it back to him and wont even accept any reward he might give it to me. that is the moral of the story. But who cares?

I will return it to the owner if it has identification. But if it does not have any identification I would keep it myself. If I give it to corrupt cops, they might spend it on useless things. I think I know how to make the money useful so it would be much better if I keep it.

Depend on the content of the wallet. If the wallet is belonged to a notorious and stingy person I would straight away donate the amount to any charity foundation under his name. Then the wallet with the receipt of the donation will be sent back to the owner. I hope he will be satisfied with what had been done with such money instead of just losing it without any returns......lol......

i would have given back the money i pick up on the road. just like u said. the man who lost the money would be feeling his heart in his mouth. so it is kind of immoral not to give the money back the owner.

I make every effort to return it to the owner, even if it was not a wallet but money found on the floor of a store. I would want mine returned to me (and it has been in the past) so why should I not do the same for someone else?

I would probably give it back to the owner of course if his/her contact details is on the wallet. If no details found I will go to the radio station so they could announce it on air and his/her family might hear the announcement. I won't give it to anyone for it is my responsibility to keep it. I'll just leave my contact details to the announcer so the owner can find me.:D

Good question. I may say YES! I will give it back to the owner, because it happens to me once that I lost my cellphone, all my contact are there so... lucky me that the person who got my cellphones contact the persons in the phonebooks and ask where he could able to find me. I beleive in the saying that " Don't do onto others what you don't want do onto you".(Of not returning not yours)

If I was to find a wallet on the road I would turn it in to the local police. It would actually be easier for them to deal with the issue then it would be for me to. I am not all that familiar with the streets so I would get lost trying to return it. If I happen to find a wallet while I was at a store then I would turn it in to the customer service desk. I assume that the person who lost it would retrace their steps to find it.

yeah,I agree with you,it is easier for police to deal with this issue...thank you...

People should really give back to the owner lost and found items like wallets, etc. Especially if there is an identification as to who the owner is. We have to apply the golden rule here: "do unto others what you would like others to do unto you." It's not a joke to lose your valuables like ID's, driver's license. I lost twice, and I had difficulty retrieving those things which I lost. People don't care about the ordeal that the owner has to go through to retrieve lost items. So whenever I find a wallet, I will take my time to return it to its owner. "Finders, keepers" do not apply, especially if you know that the lost items are important to the owner.

I will tell you a real story which happened to me last summer. It happened at the bus station in Anji after I bought my bus ticket for Wenzhou with my friend. As my friend had three heavy bags, I put my two shoulder-bags first on one of the long seats in the waiting-room and left to help my friend for the bags. After I went back to my seat with my friend within just one minute at most, I found my wallet gone. You can imagine how I felt just then. So I guess the thief must be the young guy sitting next to my shoulder-bag, who followed me there at the same time when I placed my bag there, because there was no one else in the long seat. Unfortunately, the guy was gone. I was so upset for the loss of my wallet, because all of my cash was put there in the wallet together with my bank card and ID card. I was so discouraged about this. Without money at hand, I felt like a beggar, so hopeless. I reported this to the ticket office and the ticket seller told me to report to the police station. So I did. I even went to the police station for this. I was asked to tell what had happened in detail. But later after so many months, I found it IS useless to report to the police station. They cannot help. Once lost, it is lost. How I hate the thief, a young modern guy. It is a shame for him. But I have to blame myself as well for my considering everyone to be nice and kind that I don't have at least a little self-protection consciousness. My final conclusion is: Be careful at a bus station. There is a possibility to meet with another thief some day. I seemed to be so immature mentally, which I was not supposed to. From my own story, I think that you have got my point.

Thanks for your response, fengbo. There are thieves everywhere in the world. It is not only in China, but in other countries as well. Thanks again for your response. I am now much more careful than before.

i would try my best to find the owner of the wallet and return it back to him/her.I have done it a few times, but sometimes when i m unable to find the owner,i feel very sad for him.I know how much he must have been worried. It happened recently that i found 60Rs.( 1.5$ approx. )in a public place, but since i could not find the person,i had no option but to keep it.I felt really guilty even for that.I didn't know what to do then!

I always make it a point to find the owner from the papers in the wallet and send it to them, but it is alright if I do this because I can afford many luxuries. But our attendant, a very poor boy who makes only INR.2000 per month once found a wallet with more that INR.5000 inside. He checked the driving license inside the wallet(the address was illegible), went to the RTO Dept. and got the address of the person from the license no. and then went to that persons house to return the wallet. I really feel that we must appreciate such people who remain honest in poverty also.

I never thought of it that way but you are right, a good deed does get magnified as it passes on from one to another. You help someone and they will remember to help others. Nice thought.
