I just read the news on Rediff today about corruption in India's legal system. This post is just to give an idea of the amount of Bribe and corruption involved in the Indian legal system.
Thirty-six per cent of Indians paid bribes to the legal system in 2006.
The estimated the amount paid by Indians as bribes to the legal system at about Rs 2,630 crore (Rs 26.30 billion).
The majority of the bribes went to lawyers (61 per cent) followed by court officials (29 per cent) and middlemen (five per cent).
And this is just the legal system, which stands to the Police Department. I guess the Police department bribery should be easily in the range of 4000 crores. If you take the macro view of the situation, corruption is hurting our economy more than anything else.

I read Sathee, Little India, India today and other english publications. the political cartoons have long since commented on corruption. It is hard to understand all the alphabet soup if you're American.
MATLAP: CM, PM, and party names confuse me when shortened.
If you see Gharan by Jackie Shroff, it is hard not tofocuse on Manisha K. but try and se what Shroff is saying about the CM's brother, getting away with horrible crimes, and e is commenting on more than one problem.
this is also the film where I learned the word that gets me in the most trouble with native Hindi speakers!
