How long?

How long was it before you got your child's birth certificate and social security card? I realized the other day that I have yet to get it. She's two months and two weeks old. I know the hospital said like 2 months. Should I be getting worried?

I got their birth certificates the day we were discharged from the hospital. At least the hospital one anyway. I got the state certified one a few days later in the mail. The same thing with their S.S. cards. While I was still in the hospital I filled out the application for their cards and a few days after I got home both times the cards were in the mail. I had to have a card for them within 90 days of them being born so I made sure it got there fast.

My daughter was put on my healthcare card as soon as the hospital people sent off the papers, as for the birth certificate, things here in Oz are different, my daughter is 12 months old now & she doesn't have one - we have to get the paper work, fill it out & send along a money order for about $40 in order to get it. I guess you guys get them for free over there? That'd be nice, my daughter would have one & we'd have a bank account opened for her already (you need the certificate in order to open an account here) but we're still waiting for the paper work to apply for the certificate!

It depends on the authority who issue such certificate and differs place to place. Some authorities are very fast and issue soonest possible. You need not to worry, seems your responsible person is lazy or need some extra money for issue. Repeated follow up will help you in getting certificates.

mine took about a month to get. Maybe a little over. I would look into it if you don't get it soon.

I don't think you need to worry just yet. Sometimes both of these places get swamped and it takes a little longer than usual. I don't remember how long it took to receive these for either of my kids though I know it was around the time the hospital said they (birth certificates and SSI cards) would arrive.

If you filled out all the information your ss card for the baby should get to you in about the babies 8th week and the birth certif. will be at your local vital statistics in about 4-6 weeks. I know the feeling of what to do

I don't remember...with the social security cards I filled out the paperwork in the hospital and then the card was mailed to me, but with the birth certificate I had to go down to the Health Department office and fill out the paperwork and wait a few days. I have to admit I didn't get my daughters birth certificate until she was fixing to go into school and I had to have it, and my son is two and I still don't have his!! You can always call the offices and see what the time frame is and if it has been too long you can ask about your kids cards or birth certificate.

Your childs social security should arrive within a month after the baby is born. Usually the hospital send the paperwork for you. If you have not gotten it you need to go to the social security office to get one. Laws have now changed you can only get 10 social security card in your lifetime. I found this out after my childrens sscards were stolen. The birth certificate you have to go to depending on where you live could be the court house of the same place you get your drivers license.
