The fact that the word "cycle" is used to describe a menstrual period makes it seem as though it happens like clockwork every 4 weeks. but the truth is that theres is alot of variations in cycle lenth. The girls cycle period the numbers of the days from the start of her period from the start of the next on -- is, on average, 28 days. But cycle lenths vary --- some girls have a 24 day cycle, soem have a 34 day cycle, and its not unusual and especially in the first 2 years after beginning menstruation. to skip periods. Other things that affect cycles can be diet, stress and exercise and occational illness.
If your period isn't coming regularly, is especially uncomfortable or has stopped.
If you are sexually active this may be a sign of pregnancy.

A girl's monthly cycle-the number of days from the start of your period to the start of the next one-is,on average,28 days. But cycle lengths vary, some of us girls have a 24-day cycle, some have a 34-day cycle. And it's not unusual, especially in the first 2 years after beginning menstruation,to skip periods or to have an irregular menstrual cycle. Other things that affect cycles include diet, stress, exercise and, occasionally illness. If your period isn't coming regularly,is especially uncomfortable,or has stopped (if you are sexually active this may be a sign of pregnancy),you should see a health professional. Most of the time, though, some variation is normal. I myself, making a planner of when my period start and when it ends.

When my cycle first began when I would skip up to three months. It didn't get "regular" until after my first child, and to me regular isn't reall regular since I can sometimes skip a period or only have it for a day or two. I talked to my doctor and she ran test then said that for me that was normal.
